Summary:
The Custodian/ Janitorial Worker will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the parish facilities and grounds. This position will also require the individual to be knowledgeable of minor repairs both indoors and outdoors. Responsibilities include basic and preventive maintenance and ensuring safe and efficient grounds and facilities. Performs a variety of general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment at various facilities, to include minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting. Must be able to perform janitorial duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Check grounds for litter/garbage and unsafe conditions.
• Identify and report building and ground issues in need of repair or attention to Business Manager.
• Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment (dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming).
• Observe and adhere to all safe work and health policies and regulations.
• Lift and carry supplies, equipment, deliveries etc. weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Replace light bulbs as needed.
• Set-up rooms in the manner and timeframe requested (tables, chairs, microphone, etc.). Must be available to assist in set up and tear down of special events, such as festivals, etc.
• Keep buildings and property clean, attractive, well-maintained and energy efficient.
• Stock and maintain a cost-effective inventory of custodial cleaning supplies, paper, toiletries, lighting and maintenance/repair supplies.
• Assist staff and volunteers with manual tasks as needed.
• Attend Buildings & Grounds meetings as necessary.
• Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance and alterations of landscape areas: mow, weed, trim grass and shrubs, minor tree trimming and haul off, check as well as irrigation (sprinkler) maintenance.
• Directs and oversees work of authorized Contractors and technicians.
• Completes all Maintenance work assigned and responds to after hour building maintenance and emergencies.
• Perform repairs and/or maintenance in areas such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and others. For more complex issues, management must be notified.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of facilities and grounds, identifying areas of repair and maintenance as required.
• Maintains formal record of scheduled maintenance procedures, inspections, tests, repairs and/ or updates.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
• Use of tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers, hoist, saws, drills, and wrenches.
• Moves and assists in transporting furniture and delivery of items to and from various facilities/sites.
• Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
• Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
• Performing regular inspection and operational performance of all fire and security alarms and equipment (fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, etc.), scheduling and overseeing repairs and updates as needed.
• Complete special projects as directed by management, any other duties as required by the Pastor or Business Manager.
Qualifications:
1. Prior custodian/janitorial experience preferred.
2. Ability to perform with minimal daily supervision.
3. Knowledge and/or experience working with cleaning equipment and chemicals.
4. Current Driver License is required.
Education/Experience:
1. High School Diploma, GED or equivalent is required.
2. Two (2) years' proven experience building / facilities maintenance.
3. Strong organizational skills ability to plan and organize to meet parish goals and deadlines.
4. Strong project and time management skills.
5. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management.
Physical Demands:
1. Spend 80-90% of work time standing/ squatting/ lifting/ kneeling doing a wide variety of moderate physical activity both indoors and outdoors.
2. The position requires the lifting of tools, equipment or material weighing up to 30 lbs. as necessary.
3. Use of ladders and climbing up to 30 feet high will be required to maintain facilities when necessary.
