Maintenance Welder

Job Summary
This position will layout, fabricate, weld, and repair carbon and stainless steel metal material and structures. Additional duties shall include mechanical duties during the day-to-day maintenance of the paper machine and associated equipment.
Primary Duties

• Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material and structures using electric arc (SMAW), TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding techniques.
• Able to use an oxygen-acetylene rig to cut, heat and weld materials for fabrication and/or repair
• Able to appropriately select the proper technique to fabricate and weld carbon steels, stainless steel (304, 316, 310) and join stainless to carbon steel
• Can weld per AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code and qualify by bend test
• Structural welding positions 3G and 4G, pipe welding positions 2G and 5G in carbon steel using SMAW
• Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process
• Able to layout and fabricate metal and pipe assemblies and weldments for manufacturing and construction purposes without guidance
• Perform routine checks and regular preventive maintenance on equipment to mitigate unplanned and unexpected failures
• Conduct routine and scheduled maintenance on complex machinery
• Conduct emergency repairs with limited downtime to prevent damage to machinery or injury to personnel
• Basic proficiency with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Record all maintenance and repair services performed, and keep track of all materials and parts used during the maintenance process
• Follow all safety policies, and safe work practices
• Comply with all safety signs and PPE requirements
• Report unsafe acts and near misses immediately
• Address problems with supervisor ASAP. BUT always try to give solutions to every problem. Re-address issues with supervisor on unresolved topics

Requirements
Job Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty.
• Completion of an accredited four year welder's training program, apprenticeship or formal training in the area of specialty or at least 4+ years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits while performing job function
• Able to train others in the skills necessary to advance to the next class level
• May lead and direct the work of others performing similar tasks.
