ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for repair, maintenance and construction with a focus in concrete and carpentry. Operates Heavy Machinery for general site preparation, and related assignments.
Reads and follows blueprints and written and verbal repair orders to complete concrete carpenter jobs. Performs carpentry duties in preparation of concrete bases including setting wood forms and positioning steel for retainer walls, benches, tables, sidewalks, and other university structures. Prepares the proper mixtures of cement, mortar, sand, and gravel. Assists in the finishing of masonry projects. cement, mortar, block, and related building materials, removes wooden forms, backfills, and cleans up site.
Responsible for safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment including backhoe, trencher, front end loader, skid steer, and mini excavator. Responsible for routine maintenance of equipment operated.
Performs construction, maintenance, repair, and demolition of University structures, buildings, and grounds as required. Assists with asphalt work, road repair, fence construction and upkeep, and maintenance of University tennis courts. Performs grading, ditching, trenching as required.
Maintains records and timekeeping as required. Performs other related tasks in support of Facilities Maintenance. Operates University vehicles as required.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience or a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to two years. (Note: Technical or vocational degree in an appropriate building trade area may substitute for experience.)
A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
- Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
- Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Knowledge of the practices and the ability to perform skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other related trades work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
