PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

Oversee all maintenance requirements and breakdowns of all machinery and equipment. Operate various kinds of mobile equipment. Fabricate needed parts and materials. Perform PMs on equipment to keep it running correctly at all times.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Convert English units to metric units.
  • Read measuring tape, 6” scale, level, square, etc. to within 1/16”.
  • Read micrometer, inside, calipers within .001.
  • Identify common chemicals, solvents, and gases.
  • Identify common metal and their properties.
  • Size drill, tap, and thread holes – remove studs.
  • Install belts, drums, lacing, adjust tracking on conveyors.
  • Small tool sharpening/use/maintenance/storage.
  • Electric/pneumatic tool use/maintenance/storage.
  • Properly identify/replace bearings and seals.
  • V-belt drives – replace belts/check for wear/adjust tension/align motor and sheaves.
  • Replace shafts and sprockets.
  • Roller chain construction, lubrication, replacement, and repair.
  • Select lubricants and methods to perform lubrication with grease and oils on selected machinery.
  • Read and interpret mechanical blueprints/schematics (dimensioning, symbols, and tolerances), read/interpret hydraulic drawings (plan, application, symbols, and elevations), and interpret welding symbols and drawings.
  • Troubleshoot bearings/loads/lubrication along with troubleshooting/replacing hydraulic system components.
  • Install power transmission systems.
  • Welding consisting of vertical welds (butt, corner), overhead weld (butt, corner), and brazing. Perform arc weld fabrication (sheet and plate), flat weld (butt, corner, T, lap, edge), and horizontal weld (butt, corner). Properly maintain welders, leads, holders, and identify/select rods, types, sizes, and proper application.
  • Change oil, clean tank, filters, strainers, lines, etc.
  • Repair pumps, hoses, fittings, hydraulic control valves, cylinder packing, rings, and seals.
  • Repair/install valves, couplings, fittings, pipe, hangers, and insulation.
  • Size/select/cut and thread pipe dies, tapes, etc.
  • Install/repair pipe and fittings for air and water systems.
  • Dismantle machinery/remove with come-alongs, wedges, rolls, winch, slings, etc. and install machinery, position/level and secure.
  • Responsible for maintenance/repair of roofs, doors, windows, drains, restrooms, grounds, culverts, walkways, driveways, etc.
  • Assist senior craftsman in the maintenance/repair of plant lighting and emergency lighting systems.
  • Use volt - ohm/amp meter, calibrate and measure.
  • Measure motor RPM, operating temperature, amp capacities, and loads.
  • Set up gas rig – select tip/rod, cut, burn, and weld. Store gas regulators, torches, hoses, and tips.
  • Set machine for load, AC/DC.
  • Install pipe fittings for heating system and install/repair welded pipe system.
  • Erect and work on scaffolding.
  • Perform any tasks as requested by department leadperson and/or supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Strong mechanical background consisting of welding, electrical, pipe fitting, hydraulic, mechanical, rigging, etc.
  • Experience with semi-automatic or automatically operated machinery.
  • Use of various measuring tools, i.e., calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, levels, gauges, etc.
  • Completion of Lock Out/Tag Out training.
  • Completion of Forklift training.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check, employment verification and drug screening.
  • Positive and Verifiable Work History.
  • Industrial Maintenance Degree or equivalent experience of five years.
  • High School diploma a must.

  • Walking, standing, stretching, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, grasping and repetitive movements.

  • Must be able to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Must be able to work in moderate noise, up to 83 decibels.
