Maintenance Technician
Department: Production, Lakeshore
Location: Norton Shores
Type: Full-Time
The Plant Maintenance Technician conducts preventative maintenance and repair work of our physical plant and manufacturing assets at the Norton Shores facilities; they also perform electrical and other mechanical modifications and installations to the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Ensures safe operation of machinery and mechanical equipment
  • Maximize productive uptime of equipment
  • Executes scheduled preventative maintenance to minimize downtime
  • Completes repairs as assigned on a timely basis
  • Resolves most issues in house; electrical troubleshooting and fabrication
Principle Duties:
The person in this position will perform the following tasks:
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Completes preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Completes routine electrical repair, adjustment, and installation work
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Controls downtime by informing Plant Manager and production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining equipment, parts, and supplies inventories as directed by Lead Technician.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations such as GMPs.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Completes special projects relating to product development and quality control.
  • Assists in the implementation of, and complies with, Company safety initiatives.
  • Familiar with CMMS software.
  • Familiar with PLC’s and control logic.
Any other tasks as assigned by management.
Standards and measures of performance:
The incumbent in this position will be considered to be at or exceeding expectations when:
  • 95% uptime of machinery as required for production
  • Preventative maintenance executed and documented to schedule
  • Repairs are completed on a timely basis
Skills and qualifications
  • High School degree or general education degree (GED) required
  • 3-5 years industrial manufacturing maintenance experience, preferably in food industry
  • Equipment Maintenance, Technical Understanding, Basic Safety
  • Electrical maintenance and installation
  • Some HVAC, Boiler knowledge, Plumbing, Welding, Power Tools
  • Attention to Detail, Flexibility, Job Knowledge, Productivity,
  • Willing to work overtime, Multi job functions
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer knowledge
