This position is to allow an intern the opportunity to learn OD Maintenance Shop operations and OD company culture. The intern position is part time to allow students to have flexible work hours, while attending school. The intern will learn to repair company equipment in a safe, timely, cost effective and practical manner, including performing preventative maintenance, general repairs, troubleshooting and electronic diagnostics. The intern will also be tasked with a project throughout the internship and will be required to present on the project at the conclusion of the internship. Upon completion, the intern may be considered for future employment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Learn maintenance shop operations by shadowing team members and various positions, such as Maintenance Technicians, Parts Coordinator, Supervisors and Managers.
- Learn to repair company equipment effectively and safely.
- Learn to diagnose any mechanical, electrical, or other breakdown or failure to a motor truck or related equipment
- Gain knowledge of precision instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, voltmeters, digital multi-meters, calibrators, and other electronic diagnostic tools
- When applicable, learn basic techniques of welding skills and knowledge of metals to complete truck repairs
- Gain basic understanding of DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA rules and regulations
Job Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent, currently attending a Diesel Truck Maintenance Degree Program
- GPA minimum of 2.5
Experience:
- Willingness to learn Maintenance Shop Operations and complete assigned projects
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Great interpersonal skills with a positive attitude

- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl and climb stairs all day
- Ability to walk on non-forgiving surfaces such as concrete, wood and metal and sometimes on wet and slippery surfaces
- Ability to communicate verbally with all co-workers
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Lifting: May occasionally need to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 lbs. using OSHA guidelines and lifting techniques.
- Ability to comprehend and complete company and government forms
- Ability to climb stairs as necessary in the service center and in trailers
- Ability to move materials from 1lb to transporting/moving/pushing/pulling up to 880 lbs., following OSHA guidelines
- Ability to reach minimum arm's length up to 7 feet. Must be able to frequently reach for objects at waist level and occasionally reach for objects above shoulder height or below waist level
- Ability to talk on and hear the telephone
- Must have legible handwriting for preparing all handwritten reports, uses calculator and computer up to 11 hours/day
Work Environment
General shop environment with extremely hot/cold climates and noise and odors are present.
No travel required.
