Summary:
The Spare Oiler is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, lubricating and maintaining the air compressor system, the effluent pit system and the river water intake system; to ensure proper function, including greasing, oiling machines and general repairs of equipment related to the papermaking process, in a timely manner. The Spare Oiler will also share tasks and responsibility in mill maintenance repairs and upkeep of equipment and machines.
Responsibilities:
- Wear all required personal protective equipment and safety gear and insure that all safety devices are functioning properly in accordance with company policy
- Conduct a walkthrough of the process area and note any discrepancies, complete assigned work orders, prioritize maintenance requests, troubleshoot repairs, prepare a plan and coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor and co-workers a schedule to complete work in a timely manner
- Travel to specific locations throughout the mill and outdoor work areas to lubricate, oil and grease production equipment and machinery, tools and other related equipment as required
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on tools and equipment as assigned and maintain the oiler maintenance log book as required
- Respond to emergency calls for lubrication services promptly as requested
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment and dispose of oil and other chemicals and solutions in the appropriate manner
- Assist Mill Maintenance Mechanics with repairs of papermaking equipment and special projects
- Assist with other repairs, replacements, adjustments, modifications to equipment, machinery, infrastructure etc. as directed
- Assist with monitoring /maintenance of energy sources, boilers, coolers, air compressors, systems and apparatus as required
- Enter downtime data in daily log, complete assigned work orders, work with the Stockroom to track and store the department inventory, including spare parts as required
- Observe all areas of the facility for maintenance issues, report deficiencies to the Maintenance Supervisor
- Competently operate a fork truck according to manufacturer’s guidelines and Company safety rules
- Keep your work areas and shop clean and complete other related duties as assigned or directed by the Maintenance Supervisor
- Follow and comply with all safety rules and procedures
Skills & Experience:
- Must have a High School diploma or proof of GED
- (2) years’ journeyman-level experience in industrial maintenance field and/or combination of education, training and experience to successfully compete tasks
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions, multi-task and prioritize projects, respond to inquiries/incidents and work calmly/effectively under varying conditions (heat, snow, ice, rain etc.)
- Ability to perform tasks that require mathematical skills
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move tools, materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds, climb ladders/stairs and work from varying heights and elevation
- Must posse a valid driver’s license
- Must maintain the physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position and able to stand-walk for extended periods of time
- Must be able to use, or learn to use, the equipment and tools used to perform the job.

- Flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to perform all essential functions and responsibilities in an efficient manner
- Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
