Position Summary: The University of Alaska Anchorage Kodiak College seeks a Maintenance Service Worker II position. If you have experience in cleaning and maintaining comercial or industrial buildings and sites, this may be the job for you! This recruitment is open internally to current UA employees or those otherwise eligible to apply to internal postings.

Duties:

25 Shovels snow, sweeps sidewalks, mows lawns and other general labor assignments in operation with maintaining commercial facilities. Must have the ability to lift and move up to 70 lbs. In addition to Custodial cleaning tasks, position will assist in grounds maintenance including, but not limited to snow and ice removal from exterior paths, fire exit doorways and fire paths within 100 feet of the buildings or to a distance where machinery can be effectively and safely used. This includes walkways, stairs, and parking lots. Duties may include lawn care and other exterior maintenance. May be required to use mowers, snow blowers, etc Will be responsible for oiling and cleaning door hinges, will perform ceiling light bulb cleaning duties and report any un-repairable items to building maintenance for work order repair. Will perform classroom checks periodically to make sure clocks, lights, ceiling tiles, chairs, and disability support furniture is present and in proper working condition. If not in working condition will turn in a maintenance work order for repairs to any building environments. Essential
75 Removes trash from rooms and buildings; performs floor maintenance including sweeping, mopping, carpet cleaning, floor stripping and waxing. Successfully uses commercial cleaning equipment including floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, vacuums, mops, brooms, and brushes. Must have the ability to safely store and use chemicals and cleaning products. Performs tasks in a safe manner including responding to and cleaning up potential biohazards and body fluids with an appropriate disinfection material. Will sanitize and clean restrooms and food service areas. Must have a demonstrated history of key security or other positions of responsibility and trust. Must be able to safely secure keys, building supplies, and equipment. Must have the ability to follow instructions both written and verbal in the English language and the ability to complete required forms, paperwork, time sheets, and other documents in a legible manner. Will remove hazards that may be present in the buildings and will clean classrooms, labs, offices and common areas. As directed, will be responsible to secure college buildings at the end of the day and /or building opening in the morning. Uses files, requisitions, and work orders, including computerized systems, to maintain inventories and issue materials. Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins and performs periodic inventories. Conveys materials and items from receiving areas to storage or other designated areas. Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Must have Knowledge of commercial cleaning tasks, methods, functions and institutional cleaning standards. Must possess the ability to use commercial cleaning equipment including floor scrubber, carpet extractors, vacuums, mops, brooms, and brushes. Preferred Experience & Education:
Previous experience in cleaning and maintaining commercial and industrial buildings and sites.
Required Experience & Education:

Applicant must possess an unrestricted Alaska driver's license or be able to obtain an unrestricted Alaska driver's license within 60 days of accepting the job. In addition, the applicant must meet UAA's safe driving criteria.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. 

Salary Information: 00_M2 /Step 1 $17.96/hr (9% Kodiak).  (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule - http://www.alaska.edu/labor/local-6070/ ).
