Job Title Maintenance Scheduler/Planner (Biomass)
Department Plant Staff
Reports To Maintenance Supervisor
Job Summary
This position is responsible for coordinating and optimizing the plant resources in the maintenance and operations area by completing procurement activities, planning contract maintenance activities, maintaining the plant warehouse and inventory control, maintaining the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and overseeing shipping and receiving of goods. This position will be responsible for supporting the daily planning and scheduling of all maintenance as directed by the Maintenance Manager. The employee exercises independent discretion and judgment within established company and plant policies, procedures and practices.
This position operates from established procedures, performing duties independently under general direction and minimum supervision. Decisions are made within prescribed operation procedures and guidelines. The position encounters new and varied work situations involving a moderate degree of complexity.
Job Functions
All of these Primary Functions are at the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or other designated Manager and following policies and procedures that are in place, including but not limited to the Administrative Manual, the Safety Manual, the Operations Manual, and the Maintenance Manual.
Procurement Activities

  • Contact vendors and contractors to obtaining quotes or estimates for goods and services.
  • Review specifications, scope of work, and pricing with appropriate Managers, consultants or employees.
  • Submit Requests For Quotations (RFQ).
  • Submit Purchasing Requests.
  • Procure goods and services with approved purchase order.
  • Coordinate deliveries and work dates with vendors and contractors, respectively.
  • Expedite deliveries and start dates.
  • Audit procurement activities to ensure that they comply with Administrative Procedures and other requirements.
Contract Maintenance Activities
  • Plan and coordinate mechanical, electrical, and technical contract maintenance activities with appropriate Manager and employees within the assigned area of responsibility, including daily, short-range and long-range planning.
  • Perform continuous review of plans and activities to determine ways to increase the value of the Owner's asset.
  • Prepare, track and maintain cost estimates and schedules.
  • Utilize records and reports to assist in establishing frequency of maintenance requirements.
  • Interact with Operations staff to improve maintenance effectiveness.
  • Ensure the maintenance activities are properly supported with necessary parts, tooling and services on a timely basis.
Plant Warehouse and Inventory Control
  • Receive goods into place in inventory through Mainsaver.
  • Maintain records of equipment and tools that are off site for service or repair.
  • Complete audit of inventory as determined in the Administrative Manual or as directed by Managers.
  • Report issues, errors, and discrepancies to Management on a timely basis.
  • Perform other duties as needed to maintain the warehouse and inventory control.
Computerize Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Maintain vendor list and vendor information in Mainsaver CMMS.
  • Complete purchase requisitions in Mainsaver. CMMS
  • Input inventory information (adds/deletes) to maintain accurate CMMS inventory.
  • Ensure proper approval is obtained on purchase orders.
  • Input work orders.
  • Assist Maintenance Supervisor managing work orders.
  • Manage Tasks.
  • Adjust Preventive Maintenance frequency as directed.
  • Maintain equipment list and history.
  • Report CMMS issues to Management on a timely basis.
  • Provide training and problem solving for other employees on the CMMS.
  • Perform audits on portions of the CMMS.
  • Maintain paper and electronic files to document maintenance history, in particular with respect to required compliance.
  • Perform other duties as needed to maintain the CMMS.
Shipping and Receiving of Goods
  • Receive goods into the warehouse.
  • Ensure other employees receive the goods into the CMMS properly.
  • Oversee the return of goods as needed.
  • Inspect and properly ensure goods received match specifications required in purchase order.
  • Place goods into proper location as quickly as possible.
  • Notify purchasers that goods have been received in inventory.
  • Maintain list of shipping options for return goods, equipment shipping, expediting, or other shipping requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The Maintenance Scheduler/Planner reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and works in cooperation with the other facility Managers and maintenance employees as needed to insure the safe, efficient, reliable, operation and maintenance of the plant.
Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
  • 5 years of experience in a maintenance role preferably in the power generation industry.
  • Requires strong personal computer skills specifically in Word, Excel, and CMMS. Experience in MP2
is a strong plus.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem solving skills.
  • Skill in procurement, purchasing requirements, analysis and negotiation.
  • Effective in building and managing supplier relationships.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent/effective interpersonal/team skills.
  • Organization skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
  • Display a positive attitude; highly motivated and results oriented.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Basic data entry/computer skills.
  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all of the business challenges.
Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Requires working extended working hours, varied shifts or 12 hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.

  • Physical requirements include: possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and
ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme heat and cold conditions.
