SUMMARY 

The Maintenance & Reliability Engineer provides critical maintenance engineering support to the organization by developing, implementing and leading world-class maintenance practices and programs which increase equipment availability and reliability. The successful candidate will work closely with the Maintenance & Facilities Manager to maintain the daily operation of the manufacturing plants through the application of predictive and preventative maintenance practices as well as leading and assisting in the troubleshooting and repair of equipment issues. Originates and develops methods as part of the plant preventive maintenance system for determining reliability of components, equipment, and processes. Prepares charts, drawings, minor calculations, and conducts an analysis of reliability problems. Investigates to determine the Root Cause of Failure and implements strategic actions to eliminate reliability issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (But not limited to):

  •  Communicate and schedule equipment needs with maintenance personnel, contractors, production planners and supervisors, to include proactive, predictive, urgent, minor and major maintenance work.
  • Drive improvements to the plant preventive maintenance system, to include implementation of a TPM (total productive maintenance) program.
  • Develop, implement and lead the predictive maintenance program to include techniques such as vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, thermographic/infrared inspections, etc.
  • Scope, identify, award, and supervise contractor maintenance work and capital projects.
  • Monitor overall equipment efficiency (OEE) and preventive/predictive maintenance process to identify and drive improvement opportunities.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analysis on equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain department repair records in a manner to best identify future preventive maintenance needs.
  • Identify, develop and implement department processes and procedures including but not limited to SOP's (Operation and/or repair, PM's and predictive maintenance).
  • Develop critical spare parts list for each machine based on lead time, failure rate/life cycle and cost.
  • Oversee the CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) to track KPI’s and machine reliability, drive PM’s, identify pattens, and execute action items to promote proactive machine reliability.
  • Implement program and processes to ensure inventory is replenished while auditing inventory counts periodically.
  • Develop, train and implement maintenance-based programs such as but not limited to 5s and TPM.
  • Provide technical support for specification, identification and purchase of needed parts and equipment.
  • Investigate and provide machine capabilities such as manufactured and designed run time, speed and limitations, etc. in order to ensure maximum life cycles of machines and or system components.
  • Drive process and equipment improvements by identifying opportunities and/or planning countermeasure implementations and/or executing action plans to completion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory responsibilities as assigned but can be directed to monitor, assist and/or train apprentice, maintenance technicians, and ensure that contractors and vendors are complying with company policies and regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related field) with 3+ years of Maintenance or Reliability Engineering experience required or associate degree in engineering with 5+ years of Maintenance or Reliability Engineering experience required.  Previous experience should include the development and/or management of predictive and preventative maintenance programs in a manufacturing environment. Experience with electrical and/or mechanical engineering, reading hydraulic and electrical schematics, controls, automation, and manufacturing processes in a manufacturing facility is preferred. Ability to comprehend and ensure compliance of NEC code, OSHA, and EPA regulations required. Ability to demonstrate strong project management skillset.  AutoCAD and computer-based maintenance software experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations. Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, metric and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry as well as probability and statistical inference.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Ambient temperatures may vary as the production area is largely not climate controlled and is dictated based on outside climate conditions and equipment operations.
