This position is responsible for the layout, fitting, fabrication, and assembly of structural components that make up mechanical and piping systems. Additional duties shall include mechanical duties during the day-to-day maintenance of the paper machine and associated equipment.
Primary Duties
- Fits and assembles structural framework from materials such as angle iron, I-beams, plate steel, and pipe using hand tools and welding equipment and following blueprint specifications
- Able to use an oxygen-acetylene rig to cut, heat and weld materials for fabrication and/or repair
- Utilize the appropriate tools, equipment, and machinery to perform work on piping systems
- Position parts in jigs and file, chisel, or grind parts as indicated, to fit them together
- Perform all pipe related duties including installation and repair of valves, traps, clean-outs, wet wells, pumps, and meters
- Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate fabrication process
- Able to layout and fabricate metal and pipe assemblies and weldments for manufacturing and construction purposes without guidance
- Perform routine checks and regular preventive maintenance on equipment to mitigate unplanned and unexpected failures
- Conduct routine and scheduled maintenance on complex machinery
- Conduct emergency repairs with limited downtime to prevent damage to machinery or injury to personnel
- Basic proficiency with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Record all maintenance and repair services performed, and keep track of all materials and parts used during the maintenance process
- Follow all safety policies, and safe work practices
- Comply with all safety signs and PPE requirements
- Report unsafe acts and near misses immediately
- Address problems with supervisor ASAP. BUT always try to give solutions to every problem. Re-address issues with supervisor on unresolved topics
- Be active member in safety of the workplace. Participate in Safety Meetings, and when trained on a safety issue
- Participate in hazard identification process
- May be assigned to other projects and duties
Requirements
Job Qualifications
- Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty
- 3+ years' experience performing onsite field support
- Experience in the installation of carbon and stainless piping systems including valves, flanges, fittings, etc.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits while performing job function
- Able to train others in the skills necessary to advance to the next class level
- May lead and direct the work of others performing similar tasks
