JOB OVERVIEW:
Performs all phases of building maintenance and responds to all emergency mechanical problems and provides expertise needed to solve the problems. The primary emphasis will be in heating, air conditioning, and building automation systems, as well as plumbing and electricity. To be able to perform lengthy jobs that would take the Maintenance Personnel away from their normal duties. Basic function is to perform maintenance and repairs as directed by the Director of Facilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary Responsibilities
Examples of the work performed might include but not be limited to:
- Diagnose and make repairs on any mechanical equipment within the school district
- Maintain, repair, trouble shoot, and overhaul heating and air conditioning systems. To install parts as necessary, adjust controls and regulators, etc
- Construct shelves, cabinets, etc., and repair desks, tables, chairs and other building needs
- Inspect and repair or replace plumbing, piping, fixtures, traps, valves, sweat solder copper connections, gauges, pumps, coils, gaskets and other related work
- Perform welding when needed
- Make electrical installation and repairs as needed in buildings.
- Perform maintenance on air conditioning and heating equipment.
- Knowledge to maintain and troubleshoot building automation systems.
- To assist other maintenance staff when needed.
- Repair roofs and roof maintenance.
- Perform all work incidentals to construction of small structures or minor remodeling of buildings.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Perform work on preventive maintenance on controls, and any other equipment, also energy conservation work.
- Respond to any emergency calls.
- Fill in for persons missing in any of the zones.
- Assist maintenance/custodial staff in snow plowing if needed.

Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Business Operations, Principals or Superintendent of Schools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Special Trades: Possessing a Journeyman's card in a specific trade, or having ten years experience in a specific trade, or certification in a specific trade from an accredited trade school or approved apprenticeship program with five or more years of experience
- Two years of trade school courses in heating and air-conditioning and four years of experience; or, six years of experience in HVAC and maintenance
- Must specialize in heating, air conditioning, and building automation systems, as well as having proficient knowledge in plumbing, electricity, be computer literate, and be able to read and understand schematics and blueprints
- Be able to work with little or no supervision, and have a general knowledge of all trades
- Be able to lift 50-80 pounds.
- Have a valid Illinois driver's license.
- Must be proficient in the use of mechanic's hand tools and test equipment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-Month Position
EVALUATION: Annually by the Director of Facilities
Salary: As per current Support Staff Contract.
