Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the maintenance, installation, and repair of commercial HVAC equipment such as chillers, boilers, pumps, motors, compressors, blowers, valves and valve motors, damper drive motors, as well as controls system components to maintain the district's facilities in a safe and efficient manner. Work also involves scheduling to maintain system adherence to all related codes and regulations. Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing assigned duties. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in contacts with school officials and various department heads.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
HVAC:
Repairs, installs, inspects and maintains all the HVAC system in all school facilities.
Performs a variety of repair tasks concerning the HVAC systems within each facility: compressors, pumps, pump motors, valves, dampers and damper drives, blower/fan assemblies and motors, expansion valves, capacitors, relays, contactors, and controls, as well as all other associated repair and diagnostic activities.
Inspects requests for service to determine the cause of HVAC problems and necessary repairs.
Prepares a list of materials, tools, and equipment, including amounts, quality and type needed, and presents for approval.
Maintains responsibility for all materials, tools, and equipment.
Ensures the safe and efficient operation of all HVAC equipment, apparatuses, and all other associated equipment.
Repairs, replaces, installs ductwork, gas piping, and gas valves.
Inspects, repairs, adjusts, and installs boiler safety switches, controls, and valves.
Examines the district facilities on a regular basis to determine preventative maintenance schedules and general maintenance needs.
Provides assistance in the mechanical phase of planning new construction and renovation projects.
Performs planned maintenance activities on all HVAC equipment such as belts, pulleys, and bearing maintenance, air filter replacements, lubrication points, and coil cleaning.
Installs, repairs, and maintains control system components and wiring.
Reclaims refrigerants, installs filter dryers, evacuates and recharges refrigerant systems to proper performance specifications.
Kitchen Equipment
Install, repairs, and maintains commercial kitchen equipment such as steamers, exhaust hoods, reach-in coolers and freezers, walk-in coolers and freezers, and ice machines.
Installs, repairs, and maintains control system components and wiring.
Ensures the safe and efficient operation of all district kitchen equipment, apparatuses, and all other associated equipment.
Inspects requests for service to determine the cause of equipment problems and necessary repairs.
Inspects, installs, and repairs associated safety equipment on district kitchen equipment.
General Maintenance
Participates in special event set up such as graduation, board meetings, and Veterans Day events.
Responds to building emergencies such as flooding, power outages, and inclement weather preparation and clean up.
Repairs doors, hinges, panic devices, closures, and associated hardware.
Makes repairs to floor tile, block, and brick.
Install and repairs playground equipment.
Makes repairs to damaged furniture and removes furniture in preparation for project activities.
Maintains mobile unit decks and ramps.
Escorts contractors in preparation for project inception.
Unloads food service trucks.
Athletics Support:
Assists in field preparations such as striping, sod removal and installation, maintain scoreboards and sound systems.
Removes equipment from ceilings and roofs.
Repairs bleachers and fences. Installs and removes softball field fencing.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate supplemented by vocational training in heating and HVAC, electrical, and associated trades, and a minimum of two to five years' experience in the same; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must maintain universal CFC certification as required by the EPA.
HVAC certification preferred.
