JOB SUMMARY: As a school Maintenance Employee, your duties will include performing routine maintenance tasks, repairing equipment and facilities, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations as well as maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the school buildings and grounds.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with facilities manager to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the facility.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and safety standards governing maintenance activities and facilities management.
- Respond to emergency situations, such as power outages, plumbing leaks, or weather-related emergencies or damage, to mitigate risks and restore normal operations.
- Identify potential hazards or compliance issues, and take appropriate measures to address them.
- Assist with preparing the school for various events, such as athletic games, school plays, graduation, and community gatherings.
- Assist with custodial duties as needed.
- Must be willing to work overtime when required.
- Assume other responsibilities in assistance of and as required by supervisor(s).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform routine repairs and maintenance tasks on school facilities, including buildings, grounds, equipment, and systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Respond promptly to repair requests or work orders to address issues such as leaks, malfunctioning equipment, broken fixtures, or damaged infrastructure.
- Maintain the school grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and pleasant environment. Some duties include cleaning up debris, snow, and ice in entrances, walkways, and parking lots, regularly inspecting and maintaining equipment, and lining fields for sports.
- Assist with classroom and office moves, renovations, and reconfigurations to accommodate changing needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lifting and Carrying: May need to lift and carry heavy objects. The ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to a certain weight (e.g., 50 pounds) safely is often required.
- Standing and Walking: The ability to spend a significant amount of time on your feet, walking between different areas of the school campus.
- Bending and Stooping: Need to bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Climbing: Some tasks may require an employee to climb ladders or stairs.
- Manual Dexterity: An employee may need good manual dexterity to use tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Repetitive Motions: Certain tasks may involve repetitive motions
- Physical Stamina: Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, sometimes in challenging environments (e.g., confined spaces and extreme temperatures).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in maintenance or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of basic repair and maintenance techniques for buildings and equipment.
- Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to undergo background checks as required by the State of Connecticut.
