General Information
The Port of Portland is currently hiring for a
Maintenance Dispatcher!
The Maintenance Dispatcher employs broad knowledge and proactive communication techniques to dispatch critical staff to priority locations, responds to routine situations by researching and interpreting leases and contracts. This role also creates work orders for planning staff to coordinate based on preventive maintenance criteria, and coordinates fire, heating, and electrical shutdowns with various stakeholders (including fire and safety personnel, government officials, contractors, insurance companies, tenants, and peers). The successful candidate will be considered level 1 essential employees, serving as support upon the activation of the Incident Command System (ICS).

Summary of Essential Responsibilities
  • Receive and communicate routine and emergency requests for maintenance service using a multi-line phone system, 800 MHz radio, and e-mail.
  • Input, monitor, and correct data in the Computerized Maintenance Management System to allow for accurate asset management, staff planning, tenant/customer billing and environmental compliance.
  • Accurately prioritize, code, and process work requests to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper and complete information is both communicated and documented with regard to outages, shutdowns, work requests, and all other assigned functions.
  • Provide general work direction and oversight to craft personnel during off-shifts including managing work priorities, equipment, and labor allocations.
    • Communicates changes to shift leads and planners
    • Ensures safe work practices are followed
    • Reports performance concerns to management
  • Provide overflow support to the public communication team through passenger communication services and customer service to the public through a complex array of technological tools and social media.

  • Minimum Requirements/Skills and Abilities
    • Associate degree in Business, Customer Relations, Computer Applications or a related field.
    • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in facilities management or maintenance dispatching; Or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
    • Maintain a valid state drivers' license required.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to secure areas of the airport with Driver designation and;
    • CJIS certification for access to the dispatch center upon hire is required.
    • Working knowledge of:
      • Commercial aviation operations
      • Facility maintenance - plumbing systems, electrical systems, HVAC systems
      • Heavy equipment
      • Vehicle components
      • Incident Command System (ICS)
      • Working with a unionized environment and labor contracts and lease agreements
  • Advanced knowledge of:
    • Computerized maintenance management systems
    • Administrative principles and processes;
    • supplier/vendor contracts
  • Demonstrated skills:
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills to express ideas clearly.
    • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
    • Working with diverse work groups and in alignment with Port values.
    • Must be able to stay focused while switching tasks quickly and repetitively, handling conflicting priorities.
    • Must be able to successfully manage and resolve conflicts in a professional environment.
