Job description

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District in Maintenance for a Welder. This position is for 8 hours per day, 12 months per year.
Weber District employees and applicants outside the District may apply in the Human Resources Office. Files will be reviewed before interviews are scheduled.
THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED, AFTER A MINIMUM OF 5 WORKING DAYS
Purpose StatementThe job of Welder was established for the purpose/s of meeting demands and completing work orders in a timely manner; installing, repairing and fabricating materials out of metal; ensuring availability and functioning of required items; and ensuring safety and resolving immediate safety concerns.
Essential Functions

  • Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Designs/Fabricates equipment, components, and parts (e.g. frames for fans, safety covers and shields for equipment, boxes for automatic sprinkler system controls, sides and end gates for trucks, solutions for construction complications, engine operating controls, metal building components, metal cutoff saw, levers on landing legs of transport trailer, etc.) for the purpose of meeting various maintenance and facilities needs.
  • Directs assigned personnel for the purpose of maximizing their efficiency and meeting work requirements.
  • Installs various items (e.g. backboards, serving lines, railings, fences, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects safely and within established time frames.
  • Maintains a personal record of time required on jobs for the purpose of documenting and/or providing reliable information.
  • Maintains shop, equipment, tools, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items and ensuring safety.
  • Maintains welds on various items (e.g. gym bleachers, safety bars, lockers, carts, steamers, tools, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items ensuring safety.
  • Orders equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
  • Repairs metal surfaces (e.g. doors, drain covers, fences, gates, grates, furniture, frames, vacuum handles, fan shafts, heaters, manifolds, water tanks, hot water heaters, boilers, tubes, pipes, snowplows, lawnmowers, truck hitches, tools, parts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient use of items.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.

Other Functions
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Assists with snow removal (e.g. shoveling, operating snow blower and/or snowplow) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.

Physical Demands
  • Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Must be able to adhere to safety practices; and operating equipment used in trade.
  • Must have knowledge of general construction work; a wide variety of equipment and metal welding requirements (e.g., TIG (heliarc) welding, several types of MIG welders); safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.
  • Must be able to design, modify and adapt parts and equipment in a wide variety of situations; adapting to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.

Experience:
Job related experience within specialized field is required.
Education:
Targeted job related education that meets organization's prerequisite requirements.
