Position Reports To:  Facilities Engineering & Maintenance Manager

 

Position Summary: The Maintenance Technician Apprentice will serve in a state of Wisconsin approved 5 year apprenticeship program to gain on the job learning with classroom instruction paid by Brady to become highly skilled performing mechanical and electrical duties to keep machines and equipment in working order.  This position will assist more experienced maintenance team members with the diagnosis and repair of more complex issues and systems. For less complex issues and systems, the Apprentice will have autonomy to complete tasks. Work is subject to progress evaluation and final inspection. The Apprentice is expected to follow all safety rules, communicate both written and orally and document work activities as needed.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment. 
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment under the direction of other maintenance staff. 
  • Perform mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repair of production machines. (Fuses, breakers, overloads, lights, motors, with increasing skills commensurate with experience, etc.)  
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities. 
  • Perform a variety of basic plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
  • Use a computer to perform computerized maintenance tasks, other maintenance functions.  Complete time sheets and work documentation.
  • Use Brady based computer systems and programs for documentation and communication.
  • Successfully manage multiple assignments through effective time prioritization and time management.   
  • Work with necessary contacts to define project lists and priorities.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Train in a variety of areas inside and outside of Brady. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to complete a 5 year Maintenance Technician State of WI certified Apprenticeship program and meet the ongoing requirements of the program
  • Ability to successfully pass the Mechanical/Electrical aptitude test before beginning the program.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and OT
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs
  • Must be able to push/pull 150 lbs
  • Must be able to climb 23 inches and 20 ladder rungs
  • Able to work overtime on an as needed basis along with working Saturday on a rotating schedule.
  • Ability to attend off-site training programs at varying times. 
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties. 
  • Computer proficiency 
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Ability to work effectively with professional trade contractors, both mechanical and electrical, to complete projects and/or tasks.
  • Perform shop math including calculating areas for various shapes, trigonometry for determining angles, etc.   Work with other maintenance members or engineering to provide more complex calculations as required.  
  • Provide basic mechanics toolbox in order to complete basic maintenance tasks.   Hand power tools, electrical tools as career progresses.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Maintenance background from experience or Technical School.  
  • Ability to take clear notes and read technical prints
  • Ability to read/interpret simple electrical wiring diagrams, ladder logic, PLCs and schematics.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of electrical diagrams.
