TITLE:    Maintenance Specialist, Operational Performance

POSITION CONCEPT
The Maintenance Specialist, Operational Performance (Asset Management) is responsible for supporting Tampa Electric engineering, maintenance, operations, and asset management functions related to all systems (motors, pumps, fans, valves, steam cycle, etc.).   A primary function of this position is the configuration and administration of equipment maintenance strategies into Asset Management systems including WorkMan and eSOMS, but will also support fleetwide mechanical programs including thermodynamic and mechanical performance monitoring and modeling, precision alignment, equipment lubrication and other industry best practices.     

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Collect, maintain, and analyze asset data supporting the engineering, maintenance, operations, and asset management functions including performance monitoring and other industry best practices. (20%)

2.    Develop, configure, implement, and maintain asset maintenance strategies (asset condition monitoring, capital improvements, operational limits, etc.) in ED/ES Asset Management systems (e.g. historian). (20%)

3.    Support, sustain, and continuously improve the use of operator rounds, logs, and Hazardous Energy Control and program. (20%)

4.    Support and configure software systems for asset performance monitoring and modeling, precision alignment, equipment lubrication and other industry best practices. (20%)

5.    Work with equipment owners and subject matter experts to ensure the implementation and monitoring mechanical assets and develop proactive recommendations for changes to equipment maintenance strategy (equipment maintenance, redesign, operational limits, additional monitoring). (5%)

6.    Analyze and maintain reporting on the performance of assets, including malfunctions or failure of equipment and make recommendations for mitigation.  (5%)

7.    Support the engineering, maintenance, operation and asset management functions of assets as need. (5%)

8.    Assisting with troubleshooting of system problems. Take part as on-call technical support for troubleshooting of mechanical system problems as required.  (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required:      Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:      Training in the design, maintenance, and operation of mechanical, electrical and control systems
Licenses/Certifications 
Required:    None
Preferred:    Certifications associated with the duties of this position including computer software, predictive monitoring equipment certifications (Thermography, Vibration Analysis, Tribology, Alignment)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)
Required:    
•    A working understanding of power plant systems.  
•    Ability to interpret and learn information system design, configuration and operation 
Preferred:
•    Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical and thermodynamic system modeling.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 
Normal M-F work week. On a rotating basis will be on call 24/7 for a week at a time, typically 5 to 6 weeks per year.  Job is 50 percent in the office and 50 in the field at power plants. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS: 
Need to be able to access power plants and substations to gather data, work with crews, etc.  This requires walking on uneven surfaces and ability to climb stairs and occasionally ladders.
