Mainframe Storage Engineer-Prime vendor Requirement
Location: Arlington Heights, IL, United States
Overview:
The IBM Z Technical Specialist will work with theIBM mainframe team to install, customize, and maintain the IBM Z Storageenvironment, which encompasses DASD, Tape and SanFabric. This role will supportthe Client Technology team, which has received extensive investments and willcontinue to undergo rapid expansion throughout 2027 and beyond.
Here's what you can expect:
As IBM Z Technical Specialist – Mainframe Network /File Transmission you will be a part of several functions within the jobinvolving multiple products and technologies, including but not limited tosupport and maintain the storage environment as well as the functional testingfor the tertiary backup environment. You will be involved in overseeing thedeployment, planning, configuration & testing. In partnership with hardwareengineers, you will oversee the setups of the mainframe DASD, Tape, andSanFabric directors. You will be required to understand the supporting ISVproducts particularly from the vendors; IBM, Broadcom and Computer Associates(CA).

· Experience working on several large complex projectsin an architectural role designing and implementing technical solutions tocommercial problems.
· Excellent problem determination skills and the abilityto detect and control any processing anomalies or system errors.
· Excellent written and spoken communication skills,particularly when conveying complex information, and the ability to buildeffective networks across business areas, developing relationships based onmutual trust.
· Banking / Finance background would be beneficial.
Technical Requirements:
· Manage system performance, reliability, andavailability to service level agreements.
· Ensure that hardware and application security andcontrols meet or exceed guidelines.
· Develop, manage, and maintain a comprehensive disasterrecovery plan for all managed systems.
· Design rollouts of system enhancements and upgrades.
· Create standards for supported systems.
· Automate processes using VMWare Automation tools.
· Create documentation and SOP’s.
· Provide Operations Support
· Interaction with Service Center, Network ControlCenter and other business support areas for problem escalations, resolutions,reporting, and coordination.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technologyor a related discipline preferred.
· 8-12 years of relevant work experience.
· Hands on experience in a GDPS, Global Mirror, MetroMirror, HiperSwap environment.
· Thorough knowledge and expertise with HCD in alarge-scale enterprise environment with numerous CECs across multiple locations
· Knowledge of Brocade SAN equipment and associatedmanagement tools (Brocade Network Advisor)
· Experience installing and configuring IBM Mainframes,Virtual Tape systems, and DS8000 DASD.
· Strong overall technical leadership skills
Additional Desired Skills:
· REXX Programming skills
· Knowledge of dataset structures. (PDS, PDSE, GDG,VSAM, etc.)
· Experience Administering DFSMS policies andconstructs.
· Knowledge and experience with IBM Flash copy process
· Knowledge of FDR/ABR and DFDSS
· Experience with CA1 Tape Management Software
· Experience with TDMF
· Working knowledge and advanced understanding ofautomated tape libraries
• Coding Languages: Assembler, Automation, GDPS, Rexx and CLIST skills
• Proficiency in Security software tools: RACF and ACF2 and performancemonitoring using Omegamon, RMF, SMF and SAS
