Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Position Title Maine SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator (Northern Aroostook Region) Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Presque Isle, ME Description This position will work on the Maine Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education ( SNAP-Ed): Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Grant, a grant of the United States Department of Agriculture ( USDA), Food and Nutrition Service ( FNS) administered by the Office for Family Independence ( OFI), Maine Department of Health and Human Services ( DHHS). This grant provides nutrition education and policy, systems and environmental ( PSE) change interventions for eligible community members with low income on healthy eating on a budget and leading physically active lifestyles. Strong candidates will have a background in providing education and public health approaches that support access to healthy eating and active living opportunities and/or formal training and experience teaching nutrition using prescribed curricula. This position will be required to maintain detailed records for reporting and evaluation. The candidate will work independently, be well-organized, and possess a strong attention to detail. Travel is required throughout the greater Presque Isle area and occasionally to statewide trainings in a central location (1-2 per year).

This position will work remotely from the UNE Portland campus by maintaining a home office and must be able to travel during the workday throughout the Presque Isle, Maine area to provide nutrition education programming.

- Implement Maine SNAP-Ed program deliverables in accordance with USDA FNS SNAP-Ed, Maine DHHS and University of New England (UNE) requirements.
- Develop new and strengthen existing partnerships with community-based agencies to provide obesity prevention services, including nutrition education and public health policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change approaches, for adults and children from SNAP eligible households.
- Partner with local school districts, childcare centers, community centers, eligible housing sites, and other organizations serving families with low income to implement evidence-based nutrition programs.
- Work with community partners to develop and/or implement selected policy, systems and environmental change strategies that supplement the direct education and aid in obesity prevention.
- Support the statewide social marketing campaign, including promoting it with SNAP-Ed eligible households in the service area.
- Attend required trainings and meetings, both online and in-person, in accordance with grant funding.
- Complete reporting and evaluation processes in a timely manner as set by USDA FNS SNAP-Ed, Maine DHHS and UNE.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in nutrition, public health, exercise science, health education, or behavioral sciences preferred. Comparable experience may be substituted.
- Registered Dietitians and/or Educators preferred.
- Experience in implementing nutrition education and obesity prevention programming and/or policies in school or community settings preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
- Valid Maine driver's license and reliable transportation.
