GENERAL SUMMARY
Under direction, receives mail and other items from county departments and offices and dispatches these materials to the appropriate destinations. Sorts mail and other items and delivers these materials to the proper departments. Collects and distributes mail and packages from the United States Postal Service and other delivery agencies. Operates standard mailroom equipment such as mailing machines, postage meters, and mail scales.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sorts incoming mail according to destination for distribution and dispatches outgoing mail.
Stamps outgoing mail with postage meter.
Weighs mail to determine postage.
Sets departmental account numbers on mailing machines.
Maintains daily postage records in order to properly charge the various county departments.
Examines outgoing mail for appearance and seals envelopes by hand or machine.
Receives incoming telephone calls; answers questions appropriate to skill level; relays messages to appropriate individuals or departments.
Assists local post office in meeting all postal requirements and in processing bulk permits.
Responsible for cleaning and maintaining delivery vehicles by checking tire air pressure; antifreeze, oil and transmission fluid levels; schedules regular vehicle maintenance.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel, and OnBase software
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
