SA-TECH is actively pursuing the Contract Support Services (CSS) contract in support of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) and their Prototyping, Instrumentation, & Experimentation (PIE) Department’s Aircraft Prototype Systems Division (APSD) located at Naval Air Warfare Center in Patuxent River, MD.

POSITION DESCRIPTION


Position Type: Contingent Upon Award: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Work Location: NAS Patuxent River, MD (#APSD)

SA-TECH is currently looking for a Machinist IIIto join our APSD-CSS team to set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments.


Typical Duties:

  • Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments, including precision instrument makers that fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments.
  • May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Manufactures parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals, metal alloys and other materials, using machine tools and precision handwork.
  • Sets up and operates most types of conventional machine tools such as lathes; vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain, or universal milling machines; shapers; planers; internal and external grinders; thread grinders; and radial drills.
  • Frequently uses of a variety of auxiliary machine tool attachments such as rotary vises, dividing heads, taper attachments, magnetic chucks, vertical milling heads, tapping attachments, rotary tables and others.

Work Conditions:

  • Work will be performed in enclosed buildings for the most part.
  • Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
  • Work involves interaction, coordination and collaboration with others in an office environment while maintaining professional etiquette.
Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required (no substitutions allowed).
  • In addition to the educational requirement, a minimum of five (5) years of experience performing the stated functions is also required.
  • Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to startdate and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver’s Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.

APSD is the principal center of expertise in the design, development, fabrication, installation, integration, and airworthiness certification for aircraft modifications, aircraft components, and mission systems and supports all phases and scales of Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and other Government agency requirements, from initial experimentation and demonstrations, system prototyping, and urgent rapid response, through to major fleet upgrade programs and production support activities.


APSD’s artisans, engineers, project and support staff, and design/manufacturing equipment are housed in 60,000 square feet of engineering and shop facilities and 90,000 square feet of installation facilities at the Aircraft Prototype Facility (APF) at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Patuxent River, MD. APSD provides the people, processes, technologies, infrastructure, facilities, tooling, skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to develop aircraft integration designs and certify critical airworthiness artifacts, engineering data, and technical data packages with associated manufacturing and installation activities for programs and activities as part of the prototype maturation process leading up to low-rate initial production. This includes project management, systems engineering, research and analysis, electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical/structural engineering, reverse engineering, airworthiness analysis and documentation, mechanical and electrical fabrication, and flight certification coordination in support of the installation of these tests, systems, and capabilities into military and commercial derivative aircraft.
