Machine Operator

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Machine Operators operate injection molding machines that have a capacity between 10 and 500 tons and use multiple-cavity molds (not limited to 1 to 16 cavities). While performing their duties, the Operators are expected to monitor machine performance and product quality to promote the company’s goal of producing the highest quality product while managing production costs.

ORGANIZATIONAL SUPERVISION, REPORTING AND INTERFACE

The Machine Operator reports directly to the Shift and/or Section Supervisor(s). This position interfaces with other production associates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operating injection molding machines in an efficient and safe manner to produce a quality product and adhere to production schedules.

• Verifying that proper mold is being used for the assigned run and that the proper materials are being used to minimize required rework or scrapping of product.

• Alerting the appropriate individuals (i.e. supervisors, setup personnel, or maintenance) if a molding machine seems to be malfunctioning so the problem can be quickly resolved without impinging on the quality of the product.

• Distinguishing and dimensionally checking product for required quality specifications in order to detect any potential problems before they begin affecting the salability of the product.

• Properly using all tools required to produce finished products (i.e. knives, gate cutters, drill presses, fixturing, or others as needed) to expedite completion of production orders and contribute to the company’s goal of on-time delivery of all orders.

• Packaging final product into boxes or containers and placing onto pallets.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Ability to operate all machines satisfactorily in the allotted time frame

• Ability to move and transport cartons of finished product, weighing up to, but not limited to, 45 pounds

• Ability to follow instructions in a structured work environment

• Adherence to all safety rules

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School education, GED or equivalent and successful completion of all assigned Mission training classes.

ENVIRONMENT

• Associate will continuously remain stationary during the course of an 8-hour work period, which is only interrupted by two 10-minute breaks and a 20-minute lunch period.

• Associate will frequently position self to collect product from low level areas at approximately 14” at height.

• Associate will continuously operate 1-3 machines at once, moving from one machine to the next to maintain the product* (* some machines are automated, requiring less involvement of the product).

• Associate would continuously perform tasks away from body at a distance of up to approximately 30”, up to 200+ times per hour, to load product into/out of machinery

• Associate would continuously open and/or close the door to the machines to load and/or unload, up to, but not limited to, 150 times per hour.

• Associate will frequently move completed product to various storage methods from floor to approximately 60” in height.

• Associate will frequently place product into machine, assemble product, trim product or place inserts into product, requiring up to 40 lbs. of force.

• Associate will occasionally perform tasks at a height up to, but not limited to 72” with equipment such as drill presses, at up to 100+ times per hour.

• Duties are performed indoors throughout the general production area.
