SalaryMetaMetrics Inc. is seeking a Machine Learning (ML) Engineer with intermediate- to advanced-level proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic to join our AI and Product Innovation department. The ideal candidate will be an ambitious applied scientist who is capable of building NLP models, writing production-quality code, and carrying ML models from prototype to product. The ML Engineer will play a key role in building the Lexile Framework for Arabic by using NLP approaches to extract features from Arabic texts and to train models that predict Arabic text complexity. In addition, the ML Engineer will support senior engineers and ML Ops to develop algorithms that empower MetaMetrics’ digital assessment and instructional content, such as automated scoring of students’ speaking and writing responses, automated generation of items, text, and graphics, and speech-to-text technology.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
? Build the Lexile Framework for Arabic by training ML models that predict Arabic text complexity
? Develop production-quality code and partner with Engineering to carry the design from prototype to production
? Support ML Ops in building and maintaining ML pipelines in the cloud
? Support Senior ML engineers in data processing and documentation
? Disseminate research through conference presentations, publications, and research papers
Requirements:Education and/or Experience:
- Ph.D., or equivalent experience, in Computational Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Data Science, or a related field, with a focus on NLP
- Intermediate- to advanced-level proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic
- 2+ years of experience working in the ML Space, preferably in corpus linguistics or NLP applications relevant to Modern Standard Arabic.
- Experience with Large Language Models is a plus.
- Experience with NLP techniques and approaches.
- Proficiency in Arabic is a plus.
Computer Skills:
Hands-on experience with writing production-quality code in Python and Docker.
Strong foundation in Object Oriented Programming
Experience with applications such as AWS computing/storage, Snakemake, Sagemaker, and spaCy are a plus.
Other Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals in the field of Machine Learning.
Familiarity with agile principles.
Ability to effectively present information to clients and colleagues from different backgrounds.
