Job Description:
Description: The LVN Procedure Coordinator performs a variety of clinical, support and technical functions proficiently triage patients within the Department of Surgery. The Procedure Coordinator will be responsible for collaborating with other members of the health care team in preparing and scheduling patients for surgeries, procedures, and post- operative care, perform patient access functions to expedite patient flow and acts as the liaison between the Primary Care Physicians, Medical Specialties, and the Department of Surgery to assist with timely referrals workflow and interface with Specialty Clinics and Operating Rooms. This job collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Typical Duties:
- Performs complete data collection of patient and other various duties as directed.
- Completes documentation, meet current standards along with policies and procedures including documentation of all mandatory forms within the scope of the position.
- Participates in the review of quality indicators related to the efficiency of moving a patient from outpatient clinic status to post procedure status, including quality improvement activities to enhance workflow.
- Educates patients and provides emotional support to patients and family members and documents in accordance with policy and procedure.
- Provides pre-procedure and post-procedure education for patients, families, and caregivers. Serves as a resource person and assists other members of the health care team with processes for scheduling procedures, including financial and medical necessity requirements.
- Collaborates with other members of the health care team in preparing and scheduling patients for surgeries and procedures, required tests, lab work, related procedures, and post-operative care.
- Ensures that patient care is delivered in accordance with established standards of nursing practices and regulatory guidelines. Interacts with physician staff as needed to identify specific surgical needs for the patient, recognizing any potential barriers.
- Provides support for urgent referrals and acts as the liaison between primary care providers, specialists, and surgeons to expedite scheduling for urgent cases.
- Attends all mandatory educational, compliance and safety program sessions.
- Assists in staff training of peers, colleagues and management, as applicable or requested.Demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the patient/customer by friendly and caring interactions, being attentive to the customer's needs, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience throughout JPS Health Network.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Required Education and Experience:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Vocational Nursing.
- 1 year of experience as a practicing Licensed Vocational Nurse in operating room, procedural or ambulatory care.
- Current licensure to practice vocational nursing in the State of Texas by the Board of Nurse Examiners and must maintain licensure throughout employment.
- Completion of unit specific competency based orientation program within 90 days.
- Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
