PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Embraces FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service ethos. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including compliance with all regulatory and division/company policies.

Integral part of the hemodialysis healthcare team, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective dialysis therapy to assigned patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Contributes to patient care implementation and evaluation. Responsible for documenting any new or unusual incidents, feedback, complaints, or issues to the supervisor. Promotes and aids in maintaining a safe and hygienic work environment.

DUTIES / ACTIVITIES:

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  • Drives the FMCNA culture through values and customer service standards.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service to both external and internal clients.
  • Builds and sustains effective relationships through timely and clear communication.
  • Takes prompt and effective action to address, resolve, and follow up on customer service matters with all parties.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Related to Patients:

  • Offers direct patient care to designated patients.
  • Executes all technical aspects of dialysis treatments for assigned patients as per prescriptions. Administers and monitors treatments following the current treatment plan or supervisor's directives.
  • Monitors and records dialysis treatment parameters on flow sheets. Documents other relevant patient care details in individual records.
  • Reports any significant data, changes in patient status, or equipment issues to the supervisor.
  • Contributes to developing and executing the teaching plan to educate patients and families about end-stage renal disease, dialysis treatment, dietary guidelines, and medications.
  • Assists in emergency protocols.
  • Administers intravenous medications as per physician orders and state regulations.
  • Performs and documents pre-treatment, intra-treatment, and post-treatment assessments of patient condition.
  • Initiates basic CPR measures in cases of cardiac or pulmonary arrest and responds to dialysis treatment-related emergencies.

Technical:

  • Operates all dialysis equipment safely following proper procedures.
  • Provides minor troubleshooting when required.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic treatment environment in the dialysis facility.
  • Promptly addresses all blood spills according to FMCNA's Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
  • Operates all emergency equipment efficiently in line with standard procedures.

Team Responsibilities:

  • Participates in scheduled staff meetings.
  • Contributes to short-term and long-term patient care planning meetings.
  • Gains knowledge and stays updated on dialysis principles and techniques through scheduled in-service sessions.
  • Serves as a resource for other staff members. Assists in coordinating the care plan with the Physician, Dietitian, and Social Worker.
  • Performs any other duties assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:The physical demands and workplace conditions detailed here represent typical situations encountered during job performance. Daily responsibilities involve desk and computer work, patient interactions, and collaboration with facility staff and physicians. Direct patient care often requires lifting and assisting patients in movement, as well as ambulation assistance. Support from equipment or colleagues may be available. The role involves frequent standing and bending. Occasionally, the employee may be tasked with moving machines and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs., and lifting water solutions weighing up to 30 lbs., at heights of up to 5 feet. The position involves travel between facilities and various community locations. Attendance at regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meetings may be necessary. The work environment resembles a healthcare facility, with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious materials and diseases is possible.EDUCATION:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN)
  • Current appropriate State licensure.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Preferred experience in medical-surgical nursing for one year.
  • Desirable but not mandatory experience in hemodialysis.
  • Preferred but not mandatory experience in ICU.
  • Completion of a hemodialysis theory and practice training course.
  • Successful completion of CPR Certification.
  • Completion of the Nurses Technical Training Program post-hiring or promptly thereafter.
  • Capability to cover shifts at various facilities during understaffing or as needed.
  • Must meet Ishihara's Color Blindness test requirements for employment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
