Description
Department of Administration - Division of Consolidate Food Services is recruiting for a Limited Term Employee (LTE) Food Service Service/Driver. Limited Term Employees (LTE) are limited to working 1,200 hours per payroll year and are not guarantee any amount of specific hours per week.

DEFINITION
Under direct supervision, performs various tasks necessary for the preparing, delivering and serving of food and cleaning of facilities and equipment in a Food Service institution. Performs other related work as required to service all customers. Customers of Dane County Consolidated Food Service include Dane County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), Badger Prairie Health Care Center (BPHCC), Juvenile Detention Center, and numerous Senior Centers throughout Dane County, including the Home Delivered Meal (HDM) Program.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
This section lists several examples of duties, but not all Food Service Helper positions perform all of them. Duties can be dependent upon work location. Assist in preparing foods and beverages by performing tasks including, but not limited to, making and dishing of salads, vegetables, and toast, and washing, peeling, and slicing of fruits and vegetables. Supplies and maintains serving counters with food. Serve entrees, desserts, and vegetables from steam tables, counters, and food carts for regular and therapeutic diets. Prepares, delivers and returns food carts to and from dining areas at BPHCC, including assembling food trays for BPHCC residents, including clearing trays, scraping dishes, pots, pans, washing silverware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, i.e., Assists in cleaning large equipment such as kettles, ovens, vertical chopper cutter mixer, i.e.,.; Keeps kitchen, dining area, refrigerators, and storerooms in sanitary and orderly conditions at all times. May assist in the inventory of foods served or consumed by keeping simple records and making reports. Pre-portions and deliver special meals and foods to offsite customers, including loading food onto carts and into delivery vehicles (1-ton truck, sprinter van, or van) and driving delivery vehicles with food to various client locations to unloads, deliver, and serving food at various customer sites. Staff trained to cover all positions on the production floor, including but not limited to cooking, baking, janitorial, lead worker and stock clerk, assists in all areas of the kitchen. Performs other duties related to Food Service Helper/Driver as requested.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements
Must possess one (1) year of Food Service experience in a professional Food Service operation, specifically in food preparation and handling, within the past five (5) years, including six (6) months of customer service experience. Must be able to read, write, and perform basic mathematical computations (e.g., counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). The candidate will receive additional consideration for the following skillsets: 1) specific experience in a large-scale Food Service operation preparing 3,000 meals or more prepared per day, 2) At least six (6) months of experience with food delivery; 3) Serve Safe Certification 4) experience with modified diets. Food preparation and handling is an individual who is a cook, baker, prep cook, or kitchen staff, i.e., Servers, Bartenders, and Food Delivery does not qualify and will not be considered.
Special Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license or access to reliable personal transportation. Must obtain and maintain Jail clearance to deliver and serve food at the jail per Sheriff's Office policies and procedures. Must obtain and maintain clearance to serve and deliver to Badger Prairie Health Care Center (BPHCC). CFS is an essential department that operates 365 days a year from 5 am-7 pm. Production floor employees hired for CFS positions must be able to work weekends as needed and must be available for all shifts, as schedules are posted at least two weeks in advance.
Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 - 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.) Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
Physical and Environmental Work Requirements: Without assistance, lift upward of fifty (50) pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance. Ability to load and transport wheeled storage carts weighing 250 pounds or more. Ability to assist in loading and unloading freight weighing up to 100 lbs. Ability to stand for a least four (4) hours at a time. Ability to continually perform repetitive tasks and motions. Ability to carry, push and pull objects related to the preparation and serving of food. Ability to move with full range of motion. Ability to work in: all weather conditions, hot/cold work environments, and conditions that may sometimes be loud in volume.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of basic principles of personal hygiene relative to food preparation and serving. Ability to determine when foods are spoiled or contaminated. Knowledge of kitchen safety rules and the ability to perform within such rules at all times. Knowledge and ability to perform food cooking, baking, preparation, and serving. Knowledge and ability to perform cleaning of Food Service areas, utensils, and equipment. Knowledge of routine motor vehicle operation. Ability to operate industrial Food Service equipment such as vertical chopper cutter mixer, dishwashing machine, combi-ovens, steam kettles, and steamers, i.e., Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions. Ability to provide service to customers in a friendly and caring manner. Ability to communicate with others effectively and respectfully.
