40 hours Schedule: Monday - Friday 7am - 3pm

BAMSI is now hiring LPNs and RNs for programs throughout Massachusetts. This is the perfect job for nurses who wish to truly know their patients and provide holistic health. Our nurses work with a team of caring and talented employees, providing medical care and fostering a social environment.

Nurses will provide and coordinate medical care, assist with activities of daily living, foster community connections, and individuals with developing and maintaining meaningful relationships.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate medication services which include obtaining physician's orders, prescriptions, completing Medication Administration Records, and checking to ensure that each coincides, ensuring that medications are sufficient to last until next appointment, writing self-medication check off sheets, and posting medication changes to ensure clients receive the appropriate medication regime.
  2. Schedule all needed medical appointments, such as annual physicals, annual dental and bi-annual eye exams, obtain written reports from the doctor as needed and complete appropriate forms to be placed in the medical record to ensure that the persons served receive adequate medical treatment.
  3. Educate persons served and staff about medications and their effects by utilizing in-service trainings, their own professional knowledge and resources located at the program to ensure that they have a basic knowledge and understanding of such.
  4. Administer medications and treatment orders as prescribed by appropriate medical practitioner.
  5. Accompany persons served on visits to primary physician appointments and psychiatrist appointments as needed.
  6. Maintain and monitor a medication closet, first aide and infection control supplies to ensure that everything is labeled, kept in order, and that adequate supplies are on hand and have not expired.
  7. Assist with the development, full understanding and implementation of treatment plans through direct observation of the person served, full knowledge of their history, and individual contact in order to assist the person served in learning the necessary skills to live successfully in the community.
  8. Communicate and educate program staff about any special dietary, nutritional or health concerns of persons served, and consult with staff regularly about care, procedures and follow-through.
  9. Monitor, report and record persons' served response to current medication and treatment regimes and report findings to the appropriate medical practitioner, including writing monthly note to psychiatrist, reporting any increase or decrease in symptoms.
  10. Perform duties consistent with agency/program policies and procedures.
  11. Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Standard/universal precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.
  12. Perform other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS:
  • Possession of a Massachusetts license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience working with people who have been diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness. Experience working with people in crisis and transition situations preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of theories, methods, procedures, and practices of nursing care and physical rehabilitation as applies to community residential services.
  • Knowledge of the established procedures for the administration of medications.
  • Able to lift, push and pull 25 pounds
