JOB SUMMARY of LPN:
Functions as office nurse and helps to maintain a smooth operation of the daily routine by performing a variety of clinical duties to allow quality time between patient and physician. Monitors and manages medications, patient rooms, State vaccines, medical equipment and supplies, laundry, education booklets and information. Provides management of assigned doctors' and/or nurse practitioners' patients, i.e., callbacks, and test results, under their specific directions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists their provider by documenting chief complaint, essential data, i.e., height, weight, blood pressure, head circumference. Maintains an even distribution of patients for the assigned nurse practitioner or pediatrician and keeps the assigned rooms properly supplied of medical, as well as, educational material. Assist patients to Xray, lab or ED when needed. Set up Nebulizer treatments and monitors patient. Responsible for documentation in medical record and completion of school or camp forms.
After consultation with provider, reinforces education and health information with parent/guardian/patient. Answers a variety of medical questions or refers them to the doctor or nurse practitioner when necessary. Ability to accurately record messages and follows identified protocols regarding health concerns/issues and follows up with provider as necessary.
Assists physician or nurse practitioner in emergency situations and prepares the proper equipment for the procedure. Assists in minor procedures such as PKU, sutures, catheterization as needed by physician. Responsible for immunization, allergy shots and documents same in proper areas. Obtain strep cultures of patients and documents and gets culture to Lab in a timely manner.
Secure all exam rooms, lab rooms; restock with supplies on a daily basis. Retrieve special orders from Lab and Xray when provider requests.
SKILLS & ABILITIES of LPN:
  • Ability to deal with public, being tactful and understanding.
  • Skilled in administering allergy shots and immunizations.
  • Ability to obtain necessary data in a professional courteous manner while preparing patients for their exam.
  • Good verbal skills.
  • Good physical and mental health.
QUALIFICATIONS of LPN:
Education:
High School Diploma Required - College Course Preferred
Licensed Practical Nurse Degree Required
Current Connecticut Licensure Required.
Experience:
Two years as Licensed Practical Nurse in hospital or office setting required

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development for ages specific to assigned responsibilities.
  • Possess ability to assess data reflective of the patients' status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs.
  • Consistently seeks ongoing education and training to maintain an awareness of how best to provide appropriate care based on age-specific needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate and interact with patients and customers of all ages.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all department and hospital policies relevant to the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of principles of fire safety, hazardous communication program, standard precautions, infection control, and general safety.
  • Is responsible for documenting all nursing procedures in proper area of patient charts and on superbill.
  • Is responsible to give all immunizations when directed by physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Responsible for setting up assigned rooms of all equipment, educational and medical supplies and also for setting up assigned rooms for certain procedures, diagnosis, or visitors.
