The LPN attends to the health needs of the children, parents, and staff participating in all Agency programs, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Minimum Qualifications: A valid NYS LPN license. Current or recent pediatric/community health experience. Interest or experience in teaching Health Education to staff/children. Knowledgeable about the normal growth and development of the well child. Job requires traveling within the area served by the program. Must have valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle and be willing to visit sites in Broome and Tioga Counties.
- Models appropriate health behaviors for children and staff.
- Makes weekly health rounds in classrooms.
- Carries-out special health routines for children with special needs in cooperation with Special Services Coordinator.
- Conducts health assessment interviews with parents.
- Administers medication and documents appropriately.
- Makes health referrals to community agencies as indicated.
- Accompanies children in case of illness/accidents.
- Works with Health Services Coordinator to recruit and train parent volunteers for the health component.
- Assists in implementing and adheres to Head Start Performance Standards, specifically 1304.
- Makes selected home health visits as requested by Health Services Coordinator.
- Notifies parents of health screening results and facilitates medical follow up as appropriate.
- Facilitates the integration of health education into the classroom plan using the health education design and IMIL Concepts.
- Develops health resource materials for education and family services staff.
- Conducts health in-service sessions as appropriate.
- Attends workshops and training sessions as requested by Health Services Coordinator and shares information.
- Assesses and responds to daily health needs of children in the classroom.
- Assists education staff in preparing children for health screening.
- Offers input to Health/Services Coordinator in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health services to families.
- Participates in initial, mid-year, exit, and individual case conferences as needed.
- Arranges, performs, and documents child health screening.
- Plans/conducts health related parent workshops as appropriate.
- Maintains daily log and documents assessment, intervention and follow-up on individual health records.
- Assists with all aspects of record keeping and data entry for health content area.
