Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Crisis Center

******* $2500 Sign On Bonus for Full-time Positions*********

Full Time

40 hours; 12 hour shifts; Days or Nights

Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of psychiatric disorders in adult populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing care.
  • Effective knowledge of adult clients as related to all intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of their development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, and interventions common to acute psychiatric clients as well as to non-violent crisis intervention practice.
  • Knowledge of instruction and teaching tools appropriate to adult populations.
  • Knowledge of cultural diversity.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical and psychotropic medications.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the monitoring process for clients including: Medical Checklist/Physical Health/Nutritional screening, Medication List, vital signs, height/weight, AIMS, and admission notes.
  • Transcribe/post all MD medication orders on the medication logs. Work with the clients to make sure they know their medications, how to take them and how to observe for possible side effects.
  • Provide nursing care as indicated and monitor medical status at designated intervals.
  • Monitor clients' compliance with medication and medical interventions.
  • Refer client concerns by consultation to the MD/CRNP.
  • Provide medication education for the client including uses and potential side effects. Monitor clients for potential side effects of medications and report findings to the RN, CRNP, and physician.
  • Communicate effectively w/ RN, CRNP and physician regarding client's physical and mental condition.
  • Interface with the multi-disciplinary team and actively and cooperatively participate in development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Contact laboratory, request and monitor results, and report all abnormal findings to the physician.
  • Provide emergency care as needed (CPR, PRN medications), according to IRBH policy and procedures and within the scope of your licensure.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation.
  • Adhere to professional code of ethics.
  • Seek clinical supervision and consultation needs.
  • Accept and employ suggestions for improvement.
  • Actively work to enhance clinical skills.
  • Document in a timely fashion per IRBH policy.
  • Document in a clear, concise manner.
  • Documentation shows that forms, notes, logs, and other applicable written information are completed promptly, accurately and updated when appropriate.
  • Treat clients with respect, dignity and compassion.
  • Respect client's privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.
  • Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision and in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs by ensuring job tasks are performed in a legal and ethical manner, assessing the work area for non-compliance and notifying the supervisor, manager, Executive Director or designee as appropriate, and maintaining training requirements and understanding that training is a required condition of employment.
  • Maintain the confidential nature of all client and Organization related activities by not divulging information outside the facility, discussing information within the facility on a need-to-know basis, acknowledging policy annually by signing confidentiality statement, and by referring media and general inquiries to the Executive Director.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy by allowing adequate time to arrive, clock-in and assume responsibilities at designated time, adhering to meal and break times and making timely requests for annual leave and reporting the need for sick leave in accordance with policy.
  • Comply with all standards related to safety and health by maintaining current TB Test, CPR/First Aid, CPI, and by reporting infections and on-the-job injuries in accordance with policy.
  • Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the department and the organization.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Nurse Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a current LPN license to practice in the state of Alabama.
  • Experience in a mental health setting preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology in psychiatric care required.
  • Familiarity of psycho-pharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications with the adult population preferred.
  • Current Alabama driver's license and good driving record as defined by Indian Rivers' policy.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Working Conditions: Works in general office environment and in residential facilities; may require long hours. Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone and fax machine. Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds and negotiate several sets of stairs in an eight (8) hour shift. Some risk involved in the event of aggressive/out-of-control clients. Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license.
