Description

Located at the foot of Lookout Mountain in beautiful Chattanooga, Tennessee, Chattanooga Christian School (CCS) is the area's largest private school, enrolling over 1,400 students in grades PreK-12. We are seeking a Lower School Teacher to join our dedicated school community for the 2024 - 25 school year.

PURPOSE/FUNCTION:

To provide academic instruction to students in grades K - 5 and actively engage in the CCS community, in alignment with the schools stated mission of preparing students to lead and serve with distinction in the world while representing Christ and his kingdom in all areas of the home, church, society and culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Instruction

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the schools curriculum.

  2. Prepare lessons that reflect differentiation in student learning styles and abilities.

  3. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities and materials that reflect understanding of the needs of students.

  4. Be accountable to meet the minimum learning objectives for the grade level taught using a variety of materials and resources suitable to the learning situation until reasonable mastery is achieved.

  5. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement, both formative and summative.

  6. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for spiritual, physical and social development of students.

  7. Weave biblical Christian perspective into the taught curriculum and instruction.

  8. Construct and/or use courses, units, and lessons that integrate knowledge.

  9. Structure the classroom in an organized manner to promote effective learning and instruction.

  10. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Christian Discipleship

  1. View each student as an image bearer possessing immeasurable worth regardless of performance.

  2. Treat each student impartially, individually, and according to understood needs.

  3. Be a Christ-like role model within the CCS community in attitude, speech and action towards others.

  4. Be knowledgeable of the Bible and its application to subject area(s).

  5. Address conflict biblically with students, co-workers, and others within the CCS community.

  6. Foster a classroom environment of love and respect for one another.

  7. Define responsible Christian behavior for students and hold students accountable for their behavior.

  8. Foster an atmosphere where students will learn from and support one another.

  9. Address inappropriate behavior immediately and consistently using a grace-filled behavior plan.

Christian Community

  1. Give help to fellow teachers and support staff.

  2. Engage with students beyond the classroom in co-curricular activities

  3. Be an active member of the CCS community by attending special events, student activities and co-curricular activities when possible.

  4. Involve parents in prayer and volunteerism as appropriate.

General Responsibilities

  1. Establish and maintain open communication with students and parents when academic work or behavior requires attention.

  2. Work collaboratively with grade level team.

  3. Attend staff and in-service meetings/workshops as required.

  4. Actively pursue personal and professional growth opportunities.

  5. Keep daily lesson plans in easy access in the event that a substitute is needed.

  6. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of Chattanooga Christian School.
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited school in related field.
  • Teaching certification in related subject area or grade level preferred.
  • Familiarity with and support of the reformed tradition of education and living.
  • Ability to express passion for Christian education and how it is integrated into each area of the classroom.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of various instructional strategies necessary to teach a variety of student learning differences in the classroom
  • Ability to work with others in all areas of education including assessment, planning and collaboration.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and utmost professionalism in confidential & sensitive student/family matters
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written

  • Requires lifting, pushing and/or pulling which does not exceed 25 pounds and is an infrequent aspect of the job.
  • Is subject to normal inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position.
