JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Head of Lower School, the Senior Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for implementing a developmentally appropriate academic and social/emotional curriculum for our students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of classroom instruction and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Develop and implement curricula that include integration of content, concepts, and skills from across the disciplines into a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
  • Adapt/differentiate teaching methods and instructional materials to meet a diverse community of students’ varying needs and interests.
  • Address children’s skill and knowledge development in language arts, mathematics, and social studies.
  • Instruct and nurture children in the development of their social-emotional, behavioral, and self-management competencies within the framework of the School’s mission and honor code.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assessments, in-class work, and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress, provide appropriate feedback and to design differentiated curricula; write formal progress reports to parents.
  • Meet with parents/guardians to discuss their child’s progress, to present priorities for their child’s learning, set goals, and discuss resources to maintain progress.
  • Collaborate with the curriculum coordinators, learning specialist/counselor, department chairs, other teachers, and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of lower school programs/curriculum.
  • Team with grade-level, divisional, and departmental colleagues to create a consistent continuum of student learning and experiences.
  • Supervise within duty rotations as assigned.
  • Attend faculty meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops, as well as stay current with professional readings and research in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Mentor and partner with the Teaching Associates.
  • Serve on divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees.
  • Contribute to other projects and responsibilities which may be added at the School’s discretion.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary or Early Childhood Education and Masters preferred.
  • Significant prior experience teaching in a school setting.
  • Organized, dependable, friendly, patient, energetic and creative.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other faculty, staff, parents, and members of the community.
  • Experience with a range of administrative uses for technology and a creative approach to integrating technology as an essential tool in student learning.
  • Well versed in developmentally appropriate and current teaching methodologies for children.
  • Teach/play indoors on the floor as well as outdoors on the playground.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed prior to employment.
  • While performing the duties of this position the teacher must enjoy working and learning with young children.
  • Enjoy and appreciate the physical activity associated with interactive learning.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
