Umialik Insurance Company, a member of the Western National Insurance Group, is seeking a Loss Control Consultant II to join our team!

The individual in this role will have the opportunity to complete Loss Control surveys and assessments, primarily for small to medium-sized accounts, and report information and opinions regarding risks and exposures.


What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with underwriters and agency partners.
  • Manages Loss Control assignments effectively to improve risks and continue account service with a focus on reducing line of business loss trends and improving safety programs.
  • Uses established Loss Control practices, processes, and procedures to analyze the operations and exposures of different types of risks.
  • Assesses risk attitude for addressing uncontrolled exposures on new and existing business.
  • Identifies risk improvement opportunities through recommendations and safety program improvements to maximize assigned continuous account loss ratio.
  • Applies intermediate knowledge of recognized codes and standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, DOT) in Loss Control survey work.
  • Uses various research tools for preparation of Loss Control surveys for varying businesses.
  • Evaluates line of business objectively by utilizing various Loss Control evaluation tools.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Makes decisions guided by Loss Control considerations, policies, and objectives within which sometimes complex / impactful decisions are required and explains effective risk evaluation to underwriting decision-makers at the team level.
  • Utilizes intermediate knowledge, experience, and creative resources to find a wide range of solutions and articulates solutions to others.
  • Understands and effectively communicates the relationship between problem components.
  • Consistently acts according to our customer experience standards, including responding quickly, maintaining a positive attitude, building rapport, demonstrating empathy, managing the customer’s expectations, using the proper communication channel for the situation, and taking ownership to ensure the customer’s issue is resolved.
  • Establishes credibility with internal and external customers
Requirements:

What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate?

  • Minimum of 3 years of office experience, with a focus on Loss Control and risk management is preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience within the Loss Control and risk management field or other relative experience is preferred.
  • Must have a valid and unrestricted driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Demonstrates ability to multitask and solve problems.
  • Demonstrates time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Analytical with ability to exercise sound risk evaluation judgments.
  • Demonstrates intermediate organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to accomplish multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrates understanding of industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.

What will our ideal candidate have?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related business or technical work experience in insurance or occupational health and safety is preferred.

Compensation overview

The full hiring range for this role is $71,600 – $107,400. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and/or may be considered for other positions.
