    POSITION:Long-Term Substitute Teacher
    Salary/Hours:
    • Pay scale: $25.00/hour
    • Hours: 7.5 hours per day
    • Location: Assigned to a specific school/teacher

    JOB SUMMARY:
    The Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing classroom coverage for a teacher who is absent for an extended period of time. The long-term Substitute works the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during his/her absence.
    REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
    • High school diploma or equivalent/Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Previous experience working with groups of children desired,
    • Ability to work with various levels of students,
    • Previous substitute experience with MPCS preferred

    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following)
    • Reports to the front office upon arrival at the school
    • Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing curriculum designated by Manassas Park City Schools and other appropriate learning activities
    • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course/SOL standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students
    • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary
    • Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards
    • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment
    • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems
    • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress
    • Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day
    • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
    • Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices
    • Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class, during lunch and in other activity periods
    • Maintains maximum supervision of assigned students at all times
    • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
    use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
    CLEARANCES (Conditions for employment):
    • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
    • Tuberculosis Screening
