Biddeford School Department is seeking a:
Long Term Substitute Humanities Teacher for our High School Alternative Pathway Program

 

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of Fine arts, social studies, language arts, and civics; all humanities classes include a heavy focus on basic reading and writing skills.

School Description: 

 

The Alternative Pathways Center's (APC) mission is to give alternative learners an opportunity to obtain a Biddeford High School diploma through individualized, project-based coursework combined with pre-vocational training, work experience, and social and emotional learning.

 

At APC students are provided an opportunity to learn and grow in a small, supportive, non-traditional environment that promotes learning, respect for self and others, relationship building, and the ultimate goal of developing positive members of our community. We strive to focus on our students' unique strengths to develop and reinforce natural community supports, master critical life skills, and equip them with the tools necessary for success, satisfaction, and successful citizenship.

Brief Job Duties:
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
1. Develops and administers Humanities curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
2. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide customized, small and large group instruction.
3. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
4. Build relationships with students to help encourage success, increase self-esteem and cultivate a sense of belonging in school and community.
5. Regularly assesses each student's academic and social growth, maintains appropriate and timely records, and prepares
progress reports.
6. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means such as newsletters, email, phone calls, student information system postings (as applicable), web pages, blogs, and other electronic means to discuss student's
progress as it relates to curriculum.
7. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to help students assess and benefit from the district curriculum.
8.  Understand and apply effective strategies for intervention and differentiation in the classroom, including serving English language learners and students with individualized education plans (IEPs).

Full Job Description  
Certification/License:
Certification in Science ( 350, 395) from the Maine Department of Education
Criminal History Record Check (CHRC), which includes Fingerprints on file with the Maine Department of Education 
Education: 
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Masters Degree in related area preferred.
Experience: 
1.  Expereince working with a variety of learners
2.  High School teaching experience preferred
3.  Ability to lesson plan and instruct in various subjects
