This position serves as an Engineering Technician III located in the Traffic Service Unit. This position will serve as the LOGO Coordinator for Division 9. The Division Logo Coordinator must respond to logo inquiries, prepare and execute appropriate contracts, review and approve logo business panel designs, let and award logo signing projects, and oversee the construction and maintenance of logo signing projects. In addition, this employee will be responsible for conducting field investigations, and inspections for various traffic maintenance/construction operations. The Logo Coordinator should have an expert level of knowledge in the installation of Type A & B signs and installation of pavement markings in accordance with the MUTCD and NCDOT Standard Specifications. The Logo Coordinator constantly communicates with the public, especially with potential business owners and/or managers, and officially represents the NCDOT in all aspects of the Logo Program; therefore, possessing excellent customer service skills and being highly responsive to requests are essential functions of this position. This individual must be able to proficiently use a personal computer to design & fabricate signs, develop contracts, data analysis and other office functions by use of Microsoft Office along with other necessary computer programs.   • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and produce engineering plans and specifications.
  • Experience with NCDOT design guidelines and engineering software applications is essential.
  • Knowledge of both maintenance and construction operations within NCDOT is preferred because this position will assist with various projects of broad scope.
  • Skill in use of survey equipment and skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators, and personal computers
Additional Expectations:
This position must be able to perform the technical work mentioned above and must possess the communication skills necessary to provide telephone and on-site technical assistance to contractors, engineers, and the general public. Must have the ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures. Safety toe shoes required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. repetitively throughout the day. This position requires the ability to work in an outside environment, including extreme heat and cold, year-round. 24-hour emergency response to snow/ice removal is required for this position. Associate's degree in civil engineering technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Nhtasasha Alston, 336-896-2400
