Logging Inspector

This Logging Inspectorposition is a great opportunity for a professional who's looking to provide consumer protection and public safety for all Idahoans. 

This position will be located in the McCall / Council area. The specific city this position will be based out of will depend upon the residence of the successful applicant. This is a full-time position with full state benefits. The anticipated work schedule is 40 hours per week, with some occasional overtime required. Logging Inspectors are prohibited from being engaged directly or indirectly, or financially interested, in any logging business, trade, practice, or work, or the sale of related supplies.

Example of Duties:

  • Perform onsite visits to active logging operations wherein a definitive checklist is used to identify any deficiencies that are of safety concern;
  • Perform routine visits to Contractor locations to ensure minimum safety standards are met;
  • Conducting inspections or reviews of activities, including determining compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and laws;
  • Providing technical advice and assistance in best practices and corrective actions;
  • Overseeing implementation of safety codes, regulations, and laws;
  • Conducting on-site inspections, investigating complaints, and seeking compliance with regulations and safety standards;
  • Assembling and preparing background information and documentation regarding noncompliance activities, code violations, safety reviews, and licensure discrepancies;
  • Onsite investigation of logging accidents and determine the root causes of the accidents
  • Speak effectively and present information during training classes on logging safety and first aid
  • Assisting management and legal staff in addressing violations and possibly testifying in court or in administrative hearings.
  • Write articles for a quarterly newsletter

Physical Activities:

  • Walking throughout the day;
  • Driving a state vehicle throughout the day;
  • Moving building material weighing up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 
  • analyzing data for the purposes of making recommendations; 
  • operating a personal computer; 
  • analyzing data and preparing written reports.
    Valid driver's license. 

    MQ Specialties:

    Experience interpreting technical logging plans and specifications.
    Good Knowledge of: national safety codes related to logging operations; state logging safety laws and regulations
    Logging Safety:

    • Considerable knowledge of a variety of logging methods, operation, and equipment
    • Physical ability to walk in forested, steep terrain to reach logging operation work-sites.
    • Experience recognizing unsafe logging practices and formulating corrective actions.
