Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Description

Performs duties related to the operation and minor maintenance of locomotive equipment and railroad tracks.
  • Responsible for the knowledge and safe performance of the following procedures: working on or near railroad tracks, use of chains and slings and how to inspect for defects, crossing from one side of train to other side, Blue Stake procedures, reading blue prints for proper building of switches, and illustration of standard crane signals
  • May assist with performing track inspections, general track work, flagging trains, opening and closing box cars, and re-railing cars after train derailments
  • May perform minor track maintenance duties which may include, but are not limited to, oiling switches and using a track wrench and pneumatic tools to tighten nuts and bolts on railroad tracks
  • May load, unload, and cut bands from railroad tie bundles and may load, unload, and transport materials
  • Responsible for knowing proper use and performance of railroad track jacks
  • Responsible for knowing proper use and performance of claw bar to move rails and spiking or spacing hammer to insert spikes
  • May assist with building track panels, handling and laying track sections, operating the ballast regulator, ballast train dumping operation, operating a spot tamper, operating a track maintainer, and operating a crane car
  • May operate track drills, track saws, truck mounted hoists, backhoes, hi-rail trucks, boom trucks, forklifts, and hydraulic front-end loaders
  • Communicates through computer dispatch system or two-way radio
  • Performs pre-shift inspection of equipment
  • May perform minor maintenance and operations support activities
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.
Preferred
  • High School diploma or GED

  • Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and, as needed: respirator, rubber steel-toed boots, gloves, fall protection, protective clothing, goggles, face shield and other protective equipment as required
  • Employee may be required to work in environments that may include exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, noise, fumes, and gasses
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on uneven work surfaces and work on elevated platforms
  • Frequently may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
  • May be required to work a non-standard schedule which may include shift work (other than day shift) in a 24/7/365 operation

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $18.00 - $25.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
