Description
General Description
The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide Pretrial/Probation services to adult offender. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Essential Functions
Essential Functions:
Conducts regular supervision meetings with defendants/offenders to discuss progress on the behavior contract, problems, and/or receives needed input from offenders in general.
Follows case management policies and procedures and documents all services to the case record for review.
Prepares reports concerning caseload statistics, offender reports and recommendations to the court.
Develops and evaluates the defendants'/offenders' goals regularly as part of an on-going evaluation system and makes revisions.
Conducts random urine screens.
Interviews detained defendants admitted to bail and secures information to determine eligibility for participation in pretrial services.
Develops and carries out case management within the Probation and Pretrial Services Program.
Documents case management services and maintains records in an organized manner that is in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures of Petersburg Community Corrections.
Completes intake and appropriate assessment on defendants to determine need for services to ensure public safety.
Refers defendants to appropriate community resources such as counseling/treatment, educational, and employment services.
Completes comprehensive background investigations on detained defendants verifying criminal history, residency, employment history, and ties to the community.
Acts as the program's liaison to the court; provides court testimony and makes appropriate recommendations to the court.
Submits written progress report to the Director, the Courts, and other localities when needed regarding program data and defendant progress.
Additional Duties:
Handles cross reference information/documentation received from the local magistrate's office and Riverside Regional Jail.
Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires an Associate's Degree in criminal justice or related human services field.
Requires six months experience in a criminal justice setting.
An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
Preferred Qualifications -
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related human service field.
Experience working with adult clients in a criminal justice setting.
Experience of Evidence Based Practices.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Valid Virginia (or another state with reciprocity) Driver's License.
Possession of, or ability to obtain Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certification within six (6) months of hire, and complete Basic Skills through Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) within six (6) months of hire.
Work is performed during traditional and non-standard hours.
