The Control Systems Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining controls strategies on Plant Distributed Control System (DCS). Maintain Plant DCS Hardware and System Software, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Software, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) Hardware and Software, ensuring reliable operations of all Lake Charles Complex Process Control Systems. Support Maintenance, Operations, and Capital Projects by providing engineering assistance on instrumentation selection, repair, and safe process design.
Additional Job Duties:
- Provide maintenance on Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and certain other programmable electronic control system devices hardware and software, including:
- Distributed Control System inputs and outputs configuration and Control Loops tuning
- Distributed Control System graphics configuration
- Custom Control Programs
- Interfaced third party devices to the Distributed Control System
- Provide maintenance, monitoring, administration and security management of the operating system and application software for Distributed Control Systems employing tools running in the Microsoft Windows environment
- Provide 24-hour call-out response, as part of a team on a rotating schedule, to Distributed Control System, PLC, SIS, and certain other programmable electronic control system devices hardware and software
- Train console operators in the use of the system operating software and the operation of unit basic controls
- Maintain SIS software; assist in testing of Safety Instrumented Systems
- Provide troubleshooting assistance to instrument maintenance technicians as requested
- Associate degree in Instrumentation, Process Control, Process Technology, Electronics, or Computer Science, plus 5 years of refinery electrical/instrument maintenance, design or operations experience
- Electrical/instrumentation maintenance or design experience must include 3 years of PLC programming experience
- Refinery operations experience must include 2 years as qualified console operator
- 5 years of Network Administration experience, preferred
- Basic knowledge of safe process control design techniques
- Basic computer skills and use of MS Office Suite
- Working knowledge of computer hardware, TCP/IP networks, Windows Operating Systems, Active Directory and System/Network security is ideal
- Ability to work independently toward assigned objectives with minimal supervision in a multi-tasked, fast-paced environment
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem solving skills
Hourly employees must be qualified as a temporary supervisor according to the Supervisor Development Process (OSDP, MSDP, or LSDP) and meet minimum qualifications listed above; highly preferred
Eligibility Requirements:
The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration.
