Livestrong Instructor

POSITION: LiveSTRONG at the YMCA Instructor

General Function:

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Community Initiatives, the Livestrong at the YMCA Instructor facilitates delivery of the LiveSTRONG at the YMCA Program for cancer survivors while maintaining fidelity of the program. They will form positive relations with LiveSTRONG participants, providing support and guidance. They will follow the practices of Living Our Cause and will exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

Candidate Requirements/Qualifications:

1. Current LIVESTRONG at the YMCA -- A Cancer Survivor Exercise Program Instructor Certification
2. Personal Trainer and/or Group Exercise Instructor certification required.
3. Current CPR/AED & First Aid certification

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Ability to work with members to address the whole person's well-being, including spirit, mind and body, serving as an enthusiastic and positive role model of healthy and active lifestyles.
2. Conduct pre- and post-program fitness assessments, with accuracy being of utmost importance.
3. Lead the participants in group activities in the fitness center or group exercise room ensuring the safety of each participant.
4. Create individualized exercise programs and coach individuals on necessary modifications based on assessment results and medical limitations.
5. Work with the supervisor on continued program improvement and development.
6. Collect and maintain attendance and other records.
7. Report accidents or injuries and complete insurance reports as required.
8. Record attendance and maintain proper records.
9. Develop positive relations with participants to encourage long term physical activity and lifestyle choices.
10. Promote the YMCA Mission and exemplify the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility in all programming.
