PARALEGAL – LITIGATION
The Moody Law Firm, Inc., founded in 1958, is a Virginia firm headquartered in historic downtown Portsmouth. The firm provides legal representation in General Civil Practice in all State and Federal Courts including Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA), Railroad Accidents and Injuries, Railroad Crossing Accidents, Railroad Liability, Railroad Safety, Personal Injury, Mass Torts Litigation, Medical Malpractice, Workers Compensation, and Products Liability Law.
We have an immediate opening for a Litigation Paralegal. We seek candidates with 5+ years of proven LEGAL and TRIAL experience.Candidates will have excellent organizational, communication, and grammar skills. Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe, and experience using client management systems is essential. The firm offers a professional work environment with in-house training. Essential Position Responsibilities:
- Processes new cases and prepares files for attorney review
- Travel with attorneys to attend trials
- Calendaring of SOL’s and trial dates
- Summarizes deposition transcripts
- Subpoenas medical records, tracks responses, produces records received and updates medical chronologies
- Coordinates independent medical exams and records reviews with medical providers, prepares medical packages
- Drafts motions and additional pleadings for attorney review
- Prepares demand letters and documents for production and reviews/incorporates document productions from opposing counsel
- Calendar/docket depositions, hearings, pre-trial agreements, discovery, and other deadlines
- Prepares hearing exhibits and other documents to be produced to court and opposing counsel
- Evaluates ongoing medical records and reviews cases for settlement or trial
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills
- Critical thinking skills: ability to identify, prioritize and solve problems effectively
- Superior analytical and investigative skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and client management systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with clients and colleagues to support a positive work environment
