Job Description
Who we are
Founded in 1923, W. W. Norton is the oldest and largest independent and employee-owned publishing house, publishing works of Nobel laureates, master teachers, and Pulitzer Prize winners. For a century, Norton has been dedicated to achieving a common goal: to bring to readers and students enduring fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, as well as high-quality textbooks and digital learning tools.
About the internship
W. W. Norton is looking for interns to participate in our twelve-week internship program. Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes brown bag lunch sessions and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become a Norton intern with the Literature, Film, and Norton Library teams may include the following:
  • Assist with manuscript prep for titles like The Norton Anthology of Drama (4e), Looking at Movies (8e), Living Theatre (8e), and works from The Norton Library.
  • Collect and organize new texts that will be in titles like The Norton Anthology of Drama (4e). Permission copies, used by the permissions editor to clear rights for new materials' inclusion in an anthology, will need a cover sheet and a photocopy of the text from its published source.
  • Tabulate, organize, and create reports on data from ongoing reviews for revisions and first editions, including for The Norton Field Guide to Speaking (2e).
  • Conduct and organize market research, primarily for titles within The Norton Library.
  • Help QA eBooks for The Norton Anthology of World Literature (5e); The Norton Anthology of English Literature (11e); Doing Ethics (7e); and Deciding What's Right.
  • Assist with annotating/crossmapping PDFs showing where the Full/Shorter page references should be added in the margins of The Norton Anthology of World Literature (5e) eBook and The Norton Anthology of English Literature (11e) eBook.
  • Check over the asset map spreadsheets and assets for the thousands of audio glosses to be added in The Norton Anthology of World Literature eBooks.
  • Help review vendor work on Doing Ethics (7e) test bank/PPTs and Deciding What's Right test bank/PPTs. If the intern happens to be a student/recent student, they could also help review some IQ questions from a student perspective.
  • Help prep media materials for The Norton Introduction to Literature (15e); Looking at Movies (8e); The Norton Anthology of African American Literature (4e); The Norton Anthology of Drama (4e); Living Theatre (8e); and The Norton Introduction to Philosophy (3e) based on new/pickup selections and new media plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
