CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
CLASS SUMMARY:
The Bilingual Literacy Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of Visually impaired and Blind instructional practices and techniques as related to AZ educational standards and data driven instruction at the ASDB campus for K-12 grade students who are Blind/VI .
The coach models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. The coach works collaboratively as a team with other instructional coaches, members of the Organizational Development Division (ODD) and campus principals.
The coach will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. The coach is responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. The coach will demonstrate and model a passion for Blind/VI education reform and leadership.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Master's degree in VI or Special Education preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years total K-12 classroom experience
  • Experience teaching bilingual literacy to Blind/VI children
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience/training/qualities/mentoring
  • Blind/VI education experience
  • Deaf/Blind with education knowledge or experience with duo sensory
  • Knowledge of current educational technology practices
  • Experience with Blind/VI and Assistive Technology
  • Braille Skills
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to pass FBI and State background check or Fingerprint Clearance Card as position requires by policy or Statute
  • Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel that drive on State business
  • Current ADE (Arizona Department of Education) Teacher Certification in Blind/VI
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Policies, procedures, and programs of the immediate work unit
  • Principles and practices of administration and management
  • Agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures
  • Leadership experience/training/qualities/mentoring
  • Blind/VI education experience
  • Deaf/Blind education knowledge or experience
  • Knowledge of current educational technology practices
  • Experience with Assistive Technology
DEMONSTRATED SKILL/ABILITY TO:
  • Assist teachers in implementing effective instruction and assessment strategies to meet students differentiated learning style and needs.
  • Work productively and positively with others within and across departments and schools.
  • Read data and use it in planning and driving the districts strategic plan.
  • Assist/coach teachers in using district materials and aligning resources to meet instructional outcomes.
  • Knowledgeable about current and past research in content areas and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching role.
  • Familiarity with ASDB policies and practices, including the current curriculum.
  • Demonstrated punctuality, preparedness, organization, and commitment
