Description
Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full-time regular position in the Line Construction Department, Transmission & Distribution Division to perform construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution system components. Work performed may be on energized circuits.
Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground electric transmission and distribution system components, and all associated equipment;
- Load, transport and unload materials, tools and equipment;
- Trim trees to clear electrical lines in emergencies;
- Climb wood poles and metal poles and towers;
- Operate aerial lift, digger/derrick, cable and conductor pulling and tensioning equipment;
- Inspect assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure safe working conditions and perform minor maintenance when required;
- Observe Safety Rules;
- Perform overtime and/or emergency work.

Typical Qualifications
Any combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Successful completion of an apprenticeship program for lineworker is required for the Lineworker level.
Knowledge of:
- Electrical principles, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of transmission and distribution systems; principles, methods, tools and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of poles, towers, substructures, conductors, cables, transformers, regulators, capacitors, services, meters, lighting fixtures, and all associated equipment; terminology and mathematics associated with department functions; basic electrical and mechanical theory; California General Orders 95 and 128.
- Observe safety rules; perform heavy physical work; work at heights, work in adverse climatic conditions; use tools and equipment effectively; work as a crew member or alone; communicate clearly and work cooperatively with others; follow oral and written instructions.
Special Requirements: Effective January 1, 1997, Lineworkers hired into the District or Lineworker Apprentices entering into the Apprentice Agreement will be required to complete the District's Rubber Glove Procedures Training Program. Attainment of crane certification is required subject to management discretion and must be maintained thereafter. Must have a valid California Class C driver license and attainment of a valid California Class A driver license within six (6) months of appointment to the position of Lineworker Apprentice and possession of this Class A driver license, thereafter, is required. Residence within a 35-mile radius of the District's Service Center (929 Woodland Ave., Modesto, CA) must be established within six (6) months of appointment to this position and maintained thereafter.
