Job Description:

Position Overview: As a Linen Keeper on a cruise ship, you will be responsible for managing the inventory, distribution, and maintenance of linens and towels used onboard. Your role is essential in ensuring an adequate supply of clean and quality linens for guest cabins, public areas, and crew facilities. Your attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment will contribute to the smooth operation of the ship's linen management system.

Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Management:
    • Maintain accurate records of linen inventory, including tracking stock levels, usage, and replenishment needs.
    • Receive, inspect, and organize incoming linen deliveries.
    • Conduct regular stock takes to reconcile inventory levels and identify any discrepancies.
    • Collaborate with the Housekeeping department to forecast linen requirements and coordinate orders.
  • Linen Distribution:
    • Ensure timely distribution of clean linens to designated areas onboard, including guest cabins, public spaces, and crew facilities.
    • Coordinate with the Housekeeping team to ensure linens are available as per schedule and demand.
    • Monitor and track the return of used linens for laundering.
  • Linen Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Inspect linens for damage, stains, or excessive wear and separate items for repair or replacement.
    • Coordinate with the laundry team to prioritize the cleaning and repair of damaged linens.
    • Maintain a system for tracking and documenting linen repairs and replacements.
    • Collaborate with the procurement team to source and order replacement linens as needed.
  • Quality Control:
    • Ensure that all linens meet established quality standards in terms of cleanliness, appearance, and functionality.
    • Collaborate with the Housekeeping team to address any quality concerns and provide feedback to the laundry department.
    • Implement and maintain quality control procedures to minimize linen-related issues.
  • Linen Storage and Organization:
    • Properly store and organize clean linens in designated storage areas.
    • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in linen storage areas.
    • Rotate stock and ensure that older linens are used first to minimize waste.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the Housekeeping, Laundry, and Procurement departments to ensure efficient linen management.
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to address any linen-related issues or needs.
    • Provide training and guidance to new linen management team members as required.
  • Safety and Security:
    • Comply with all safety and security procedures and guidelines related to linen management.
    • Report any safety hazards or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
    • Participate in safety drills and training as required.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in linen management or inventory control is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve linen-related issues.
  • Physical stamina to handle and transport linens, including lifting and moving heavy bags.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of linen care and maintenance practices.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer skills for maintaining inventory records
