Department Information

The Department of Theatre and Dance has approximately 65 majors, 30 Theatre minors, and 20 Dance minors with 6 full-time faculty and 4 full-time staff. The department is a past winner of the university Department Program of Excellence Award and Inclusive Excellence Award. Through the assistance of several NEA grants, the department has hosted a wide variety of guest artists in theatre and dance. We strive to create theatre that is relevant, accessible, socially conscious, and engages our campus community.

Job Summary

The Limited-Term Lecturer in Dance will be an integral part of the Department of Theatre and Dance by teaching classes in our Dance Minor Program as well as the Community Dance Program. The course load for lecturers is 5/5 and includes choreography and mentorship of student choreographers for four dance productions each year (2 per semester) and support for the department's spring musical. The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a candidate who works collaboratively, collegially, and creatively.
As a limited-term position, the primary focus for the position is teaching.
This position carries a non-tenure track status.

Responsibilities

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
- Instructing courses and leading rehearsals for the GCSU Dance Minor and Community Dance Program, including various levels of tap, ballet, contemporary, and jazz for ages 3 and up
- Serving as Assistant Director for all dance events including oversight of operational and organizational processes
- Serving as Production Manager for The Nutcracker including scheduling, space reservations, and collaboration with technical partners regarding lighting, scenery, props, costumes, sound, etc.
- Assisting in organization and implementation of donor programming including performance of The Nutcracker for local schools
- Developing creative works for departmental events
- Mentoring student scholarship
- Other teaching responsibilities

Faculty are expected to conduct research and develop within the profession.

Faculty - Service to Institution -
- Mentor student attendance at the American College Dance Association (ACDA) Festival
- Serve as co-advisor to Chi Tau Epsilon dance honor society
- Student recruitment
- Programs directed and advised
- Participation in special programs or projects
- Other service in the institution

Faculty - Public Service -
Public Service is often a part of faculty service expectations and might include activities such as the following:

Other Duties and Responsibilities -
All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
A terminal degree in Dance at the time of appointment.
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))
