The Road Maintenance Division aims to provide reliable, accessible, and well-maintained roadways that enhance the quality of life for all residents and visitors. In addition to patching potholes, correcting drainage problems, maintaining bridges, and solving other roadway problems, Road Maintenance aids other divisions with projects on a regular basis.
As a Light Equipment Operator for Road Maintenance, you will perform semiskilled, manual work in the operation of Public Works equipment. Your schedule for this full-time position will be Monday through Thursday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm.
- May operate one or more of the following pieces of equipment: farm tractors, trucks less than 33,000 GVW, tractor mowers or other similar equipment.
- May occasionally operate gasoline-powered machinery as assigned.
- Duties include performing manual labor.
- Washes, cleans and performs routine maintenance to equipment.
- May be assigned to operate heavier equipment on emergency, temporary or trainee basis.
- Maintain records of tasks performed on a daily basis, and other reports and records as required.
- Drive and operate County vehicles and equipment.
- Responds to after hours' emergency call outs as needed.
- Assist with disaster preparedness and emergency response in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency event.
- Perform other related work as required.
- Requires high school diploma or GED, and/or specialized vocational training.
- Requires a minimum of 3 months of experience
- Must have a valid Florida CDL, Class "A" license with "N" endorsement Air Brakes, or be able to obtain within 120 days of employment
- Must have, or obtain within one year, FDOT Intermediate M.O.T. certification
- Must have, or be able to obtain within 90 days, certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100C and 700B
- Requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, and lifting virtually all of the time.
- Involves lifting & carrying up to 10 pounds and on occasion up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, bend, squat, balance, twist and reach above shoulders and on occasion, climb, kneel and throw.
- Tasks require employee to simple grasping, pushing, pulling, operate foot controls/levers, drive automotive equipment, work in darkness and operate a manual transmission. On occasion, fine manual manipulation.
- Requires adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
- The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, and depth perception.
- The job may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, fumes and/or noxious odors, extreme noise levels, vibration, and moving machinery, traffic, electrical shock and heights.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
- All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
Must successfully pass an employment reference check, criminal background check, physical examination check. Drug screens will be in accordance with the Drug Free Workplace Act and/or the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.
