GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position is for Operator I, level for the EDPR Heavy Assembly Lift Operations team (HALO). The position requires you to operate/drive a semi-truck with a trailer while conforming to all DOT requirements. This position is for a person with the right skills to be trained in operating a self-hoisting crane and have the ability and experience to replace major components of a wind turbine. You must have a comprehensive understanding and ability to apply your experience and education in all elements required for successful large corrective crane operations. This includes, but is not limited to, completing Lock out Tag out (LOTO), Tail Board meetings, and job-specific documentation that is required to conduct corrective maintenance in the safest manner possible. Perform inspections of equipment, tools, vehicles, and rigging for compliance with EDPR policy and Governmental Safety and Environmental regulations. This person must be a self-motivated, self-starter and with a strong ability to recognize opportunities, take actions to achieve results, model and drive collaboration.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Operate Semi-Truck & Trailer, comply with all DOT requirements and all state & local requirements/restrictions;
  • Support the planning and coordination for all required maintenance and cleaning of:
  • Crane system and components
  • Semi-tractor and trailers
  • Perform major corrective replacements and repairs (gearbox, generator, rotor, main shaft, blade) with a self-hoisting crane;
  • Work closely with site technicians to perform crane and component replacement works;
  • Perform heavy rigging operations for component replacements;
  • Perform troubleshooting for any turbine faults and/or Crane faults during the exchange process;
  • Conform to all EDPR site-specific requirements, point of contact, sign-in, site logistics policy, muster points, site evacuation plan, area services, and so on to ensure all safety, reporting, local municipal, and regulatory requirements are met;
  • Operate & maintain self-hoisting crane components to ensure longevity and ready-to-use condition always;
  • Provide the HALO project manager and windfarm manager any punch list items to ensure proper follow-up of any pending issues following exchange works;
  • Ensure that onsite work creates minimum impact on the surrounding environment. Minimize the work extending beyond existing roads and tower pads;
  • Confirm and communicate with the Central Maintenance team for component deliveries and preparedness;
  • Complete necessary forms and reports regarding maintenance work as requested by the Company, including SAP entries and others;
  • Support with consumable levels and necessary crane & turbine parts inventory management to include initiation or continuance of inventory stock and issuance system for spare parts and defective parts control and communication.
  • Protect Company confidential information by not communicating, disclosing, or using it for benefit of third parties and maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity always;
  • And, perform such other duties as may be required from time to time by the company.

  • Travel ~80% with home rotation time depending on the current assignment.
  • Agrees to obtain all required certifications and training to perform the job, as provided by and deemed necessary by EDPR.
  • Responsibly manage corporate expenses and expense reports in a timely manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION

  • Education and/or Experience: AS, AA, or BA preferred. At least (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in operations and major wind turbine component replacement.
  • Basic Electricity Experience: Understanding of Ohms Law, the difference and use of AC and DC currents, circuit testing with multi-meter, and its fundamentals.
  • Medium Voltage: Understanding switch gear, pad mount transformer, step-down transformer termination, and basic safety.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to lead a team, set achievable goals, monitor performance, coach, resolve differences, and identify strengths and weaknesses to better train and manage the team.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Capacity / Proactivity: to perform lifting riggings and implementations in main components in order to simplify or facilitate hoisting operation with a Self-hoisting device through maneuvers as simplified and safe as possible.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Creativity: Ability to imagine the process to anticipate. The ability to see around corners, and find new alternatives and options to increase safety and work efficiency.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.
  • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products preferred.
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to frequently perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching approximately 75% of the time while on wind farm sites; ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment.
  • Walking: Ability to walk .25 to .5 miles per day, including across unpaved and rough surfaces when on wind farm sites.
  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Lifting: Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 60 pounds and to occasionally lift items weighing between 60 and 100 pounds.
  • Climbing:
    • Ability to climb turbine towers up to 110 meters in height approximately 5-10 times per year, or as needed
    • Weight must be between 125 and 275 pounds, excluding equipment/gear worn when performing job-related tasks, to be in accordance with the ANSI Fall Protection Standards.
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Tolerance to Extreme Weather Conditions: Ability to work in adverse weather conditions 35% of the time while on wind farm sites when necessary
